GRANBY, Que., June 29, 2002--It was in August 1999 when veteran Luke Plante made his last visit in the winner's circle at autodrome Granby. Last Friday, the veteran of more than 20 seasons in stock-car racing, was back to a place well-known to him. It was his first success since he decided to make a comeback driving for Claude Marcoux. It was a very easy win for the Sorel driver as he led all the way in that 30-lap feature disputed without any caution flags. Alain Boisvert crossed the finish line second followed by Claude Brouillard.

Plante who is now in the top ten drivers in the Carquets Auto Parts championship for Modified was never upset by his rivals. At the green flag, he took the lead and never had to look back. Alain Boisvert experienced the same situation for his second spot but never had a serious chance to approach Plante.

In the very fast 30-lap feature, it was the first so far this season without any yellow flags, fans had to look behind Plante and Boisvert to find an interesting challenge for the third spot on the podium. One after another, Martin Gagne, American Jerry Pinnock Jr., Kayle Robidoux and Claude Brouillard had taken this position and Brouillard had the last word in front of Robidoux and Donald Scarborough, the points' leader at autodrome Granby. It was the first evening since the beginning of the season that Scarborough could not finish on the podium.

Besides Plante who had a perfect night, Martin Gagne and Leon Gonyo were the winners in their respective heats.

The same for Gauthier

Very often squeezed in slower traffic and involved in mishaps, Andre Gauthier took avantage of the situation to register his second win of the season by leading the Sportsman 30-lap feature wire-to-wire. Young rookie Yannick Ledoux drove a very steady race to finish second after starting in the 7th spot.

In the Late Model division, Benoit Berude was very happy with his first visit of the season in the winner's circle but lost his smile at the technical inspection when DIRT officials found out that the car had an illegal camshaft. He was excluded from the results. Michel Coderre finished second followed by Stephane Larivière, champion of the last two seasons.

Francois Bernier was the winner in the 4 Cylinders class.
