Wilfried Boucenna (in photo, from a previous race) closed in the best way the second edition of the American Speedfest at Brands Hatch with his second consecutive win in the ELITE 2 division, stretching his lead in the championship standings over his teammate Thomas Ferrando (#22 Overdrive-Buffalo Chevrolet Camaro), who crossed the finish line second.
Boucenna started from the pole and briefly lost the lead to Luca Pirri (#25 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) after an early restart, but when he got back in front on lap 7, he immediately built a little cushion, while the Italian engaged a tight battle for second place with Denis Dupont (#32 RCP - Marc VDS Toyota Camry), Thomas Ferrando and Salvador Tineo Arroyo (#1 Ford Autolix Competition Ford Mustang). Meanwhile Marsilio Canuti (#77 DF-1 Racing by B66 Chevrolet Camaro) came back from the last place on the grid to join the four drivers.
Ferrando took second place on lap 21 and started chasing down his teammate, while a contact between Canuti and Pirri led to a shuffle in running order and forced the CAAL Racing driver to retire with a punctured right rear tire. Boucenna administered his margin and took the checkered flag 2 seconds ahead of the talented French rookie, who won the Rookie Cup classification. Canuti was third but he received a drive-through – converted in a 30 seconds penalty after the race – for driving outside the track’s limits, leaving the last step on the podium to Dumarey.
Tineo Arroyo finished fourth ahead of a consistent Philipp Lietz (#86 TB Renauer Motorsport Ford Mustang). The top-10 was completed by Hugo Bec (#8 RDV Compétition Ford Mustang), who won the Gentleman Trophy classification, Gianmarco Ercoli (#31 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS), hometown hero Bradley Smith (#17 VGJL Motorsports Toyota Camry), who came from the 16th spot on the grid, Francesca Linossi (#66 DF-1 Racing by B66 Chevrolet Camaro) – first in the Ladies Cup after starting 25th – and Simone Laureti (#51 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS).
The ELITE 2 division will be back in action at Tours Speedway on July 5 and 6.
