JOHNSON BEATS COFFEY IN PHOTO FINISH AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY ON QUALITY HARDWOODS NIGHT

BREWERTON, NY...Alan Johnson beat Vic Coffey in a photo finish last Friday at Brewerton Speedway in the 35-lap Quality Hardwoods DIRT Big Block Modified main event. It appeared that Coffey was going to win his first ever feature race at the D-shaped DIRT Demon, but Johnson had a different plan in earning the $2,000 payday. It was the third photo finish in the last four feature races on the multi-groove track for the DIRT Big Block Modifieds.

Tony Buffa raced out to the early lead at the start of the Quality Hardwoods DIRT Big Block Modified feature race from the pole starting position. Buffa would lead the opening four circuits. On lap five Steve Hulsizer took the top spot away from Buffa. Vic Coffey, Jeff Isabell and Chuck Bower followed the lead duo with five circuits complete.

At the halfway mark Hulsizer continued to lead the talented field with Coffey, Isabell, Buffa and Johnson following in the top five. Buffa, Bob McCreadie, Billy Decker, Ryan Phelps and Matt Sheppard raced in positions sixth through tenth respectively at the halfway stage. Hulsizer and Coffey battled for the lead, lap after lap. It was on lap-27 when Coffey took the lead away from Hulsizer.

The second and final caution period of the race came on lap-31 when Tim Fuller stopped on the backstretch. This put Johnson right behind Coffey on the restart and set-up another tremendous finish at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. It appeared that Coffey was on his way to his first ever DIRT Big Block Modified feature race win at Brewerton Speedway.

But, coming out of the fourth turn of the final lap Johnson made one more attempt for victory. Johnson made the move work and claimed the victory by .049 seconds in the WPC Associates ride. Coffey had to settle for second with Isabell, Sheppard and Bower completing the top five feature finishers. Decker, Gary Tomkins, Hulsizer, Phelps and Pat Ward rounded out the top ten finishers.

Dale Caswell earned his second 20-lap IMCA Modified feature race victory of the season last Friday. Tony Finch, Bill Anderson Sr., Tim Hearne and Kevan Cook finished in positions second through fifth respectively. Caswell took the top spot away from last weeks' feature winner Tony Finch on lap nine and would lead the field until the drop of the checkered flag.

Dan Williams won his first 20-lap Mod Lite feature race last Friday night. Darren Forbes, Lowell Zehr, Tim Devendorf and Rocco Leone completed the top five feature finishers. Williams held off both Forbes and Zehr in the late going to record the victory. Williams took the top spot away from a strong running Leone on lap eight and held on for the victory.

Joey Delacruz won his second 15-lap Four Cylinder Super Stock feature race last Friday. Glen Erwin, Todd Williamson, Rich Murtaugh and Daryl Carl followed Delacruz across the finish line. Delacruz inherited the lead on lap-10 when Williamson flipped his car. Delacruz held on for the victory, while Williamson recovered for a third place finish,

Louie Jackson claimed the victory in the first ever Stacker 2 Pro Stock Super DIRT Series race last Friday night. John Pietrowicz, P.J. Peters, Clayton Benedict and Jack Terrell finished in positions second through fifth respectively. Jackson took the top spot away from Peters on lap-13 and never gave it back. The entire 25-lap distance was caution free racing.
