TOMKINS HOLDS OFF DECKER FOR SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON AT BREWERTON

BREWERTON, NY...Defending Brewerton Speedway DIRT Big Block Modified Track Champion Gary Tomkins won his second 35-lap main event of the season last Friday on Fernandez Auto Mall Night. Tomkins held off the late race charge of Billy Decker to claim the win in the Elaine James Motorsports entry. The victory for the driver from Clifton Springs, N.Y. was worth $2,000.

Bob McCreadie raced out to the early lead at the start of the Fernandez Auto Mall DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the pole starting position. After five circuits McCreadie continued to lead and was being followed in the top five by Sean Beardsley, Tom Sears, Steve Hulsizer and Jim Witko. McCreadie, the multi-time Brewerton Speedway Track Champion would lead the opening 16 circuits.

Tomkins took the top spot away from McCreadie on lap-17. At the halfway mark Tomkins, McCreadie, Alan Johnson, Hulsizer and Scott Prentice raced in the top five positions. Decker, Tim Fuller, Witko, Chuck Bower and Pat Ward raced in positions sixth through tenth respectively at the halfway stage. Johnson moved into the second position on lap-20 and started to close in on Tomkins.

Decker shortly moved in on the lead duo and made it a three car battle for the win. Decker passed Johnson on a late race restart and then tried to sweep around Tomkins as well. But, the laps ran out for Decker as Tomkins claimed the victory. Decker, Johnson, Prentice and Ward completed the top five feature finishers in the talented field.
