36th Annual Chevy Dealers 400 Richest Sunoco Event

Salem, Ind. (July 8, 2002) -- For the third consecutive season, one of the most legendary short track events will feature the Sunoco Super Series in the 36th Annual Chevy Dealers 400 Presented By Choo Choo Customs & Great Deals Coupon Magazine at Anderson Speedway on July 12-13. This is the 10th event of the 2002 season for the Sunoco Super Series and the fourth trip to the renowned quarter-mile oval that always provides excitement.

"I expect one of the greatest races we have ever had at Anderson Speedway," said Rick Dawson, owner of Anderson Speedway. "Some of the drivers that are coming are former winners of the "400" and they will have their hands full with the drivers of the Sunoco Super Series."

The 2002 Chevy Dealers 400 Presented By Choo Choo Customs & Great Deals Coupon Magazine will feature all the stars of the Sunoco Super Series with also some of the best regional talent in the Midwest.

Sunoco Super Series points leader Joel Kauffman enters the race with two victories to his credit with the most recent coming at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, June 8. Matt Hagans has raced consistently all season, ranking second in the standings with sixth top-ten finishes and leads the category for laps led.

Jim Crabtree Jr. ranks third in points with Canadian Legend Junior Hanley in fourth with two victories, one coming in May at Anderson. A charging J.R. Roahrig has climbed to fifth in the standings with consistent top-five finishes. Jeff Lane finished runner-up in the 2001 rain-shortened Chevy Dealers 400.

Other top drivers include 2001 winner Bull Baker and 2000 winner Kenny Tweedy, along with rookie Andy Ponstein, RE/MAX Series Winner Ron Breese Jr., Todd Oliver, Terry Fisher, Evan Jackson, Bobby Parsley, Brent Downey, Rick Turner and freshmen drivers Todd Currier and Tim Phillips.

Former ASA Racing Series veterans and race winners Tom Jones of Illinois and Harold Fair of Michigan have filed entries for the event. Both competitors have raced with the Sunoco Super Series in previous Chevy Dealers 400 events. Glenn Gault of Ohio, who competes in the Hooter's Pro Cup Northern Division, will also be on hand for event. Brad Mueller of Wisconsin, who recently started races in the ASA and Busch Grand National series', will attempt to make the 36th Annual Chevy Dealers 400 starting field this weekend.

The Chevy Dealers 400 Presented By Choo Choo Customs and Great Deals Coupon Magazine begin on Thursday, July 11, with a four-hour practice session beginning at 5 PM. On Friday, the pit area opens at 1:30 PM with practice scheduled at 4:30. Qualifying will start at 8 with the 25-last chance race to follow. On Saturday, a warm-up session is scheduled for 5:15 with a 45-minute autograph session set for 6:15. Pre- race activities begin at 7:15 with the race going green at 8.

Tickets for Friday are $6 for adults and advance tickets for the Chevy Dealers 400 are $18 and $20 on race day. Children under the age of 6 will be admitted free. For additional ticket information, please contact Anderson Speedway, (765) 642-0206.
