CRA: Anderson SuperTruck Championship moves to Sunoco Super series

Alan Troxell and Dave Lynch to Share Driving Duties in 2002 Anderson, Ind. (January 30, 2002) - The 2001 Anderson Speedway SuperTruck championship team of driver Alan Troxell and owner/driver Dave Lynch have announced their intentions to race in the CRA Sunoco Super Series in 2002. Troxell and Lynch will share the driving duties in their first season in the series.

Lynch and Troxell each ran SuperTrucks in Anderson Speedway’s premier weekly division in 2001 with Troxell claiming the championship and Lynch finishing in eighth position. The team also made their debut with the Sunoco Super Series last year in the prestigious Anderson 400, with Troxell getting his first career start as driver.

“We really enjoyed ourselves in the 400 last year, even though the outcome wasn’t quite what we were looking for, “ said Lynch. “ After claiming the SuperTruck championship this year, we really wanted to get out and do some different things, and the Sunoco Super Series seemed like the perfect fit.”

Although the full details of their schedule have not been decided on, Lynch says they have a general idea. “We’re going to start out at the first race and see how things go, and over the course of the year get seat time for both of us,” the former law enforcement official from California noted. “We plan to run most of the races, and if things go well, try and run the complete schedule in 2003, with both of us still eligible for rookie of the year honors.”

The goals are relatively simple for the team according to Lynch. “As an owner, I want to put the best equipment out the track that I can. I don’t want to be behind the 8-ball from the start. If we start with good equipment, then it’s up to us to do a good job of making it turn left and racing in traffic. We have a lot to learn, but we want to start from position of having good equipment.”

The 2002 rookies will be using some familiar names to guide them through the early stages of building their team. DeWayne McGunegill is helping to get their engine program off to a good start, while three-time series winner, Jim Cooper, will serve as the team consultant.

Troxell is expected to be the first behind the wheel at the series opener at Anderson. “We worked very hard for Alan’s SuperTruck championship last year and it took a lot out of us, but Alan told me yesterday, ‘I am starting to get really excited about 2002!’ He should be, because were going to focus on working hard, learning a lot, and most importantly, having fun,” added Lynch.
