Salem, IN (September 15, 2004) -- Joel Kauffman, the 2001 Sunoco Super Series Rookie Of The Year and 2002 Sunoco Super Series Champion, will be competing in this Saturday's Sunoco 150 Presented By Great Deals Sunoco Super Series event at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana. Kauffman will be teamed with legendary Crew Chief Bill Rievley again for Saturday's event, putting back together the team that claimed the series championship in 2002 by a mere two points over veteran series competitor Junior Hanley. At that time Kauffman was all of 16 years old battling the 58-year-old Hanley down to the wire for the championship through the series last event of 2002.
Kauffman, now residing in Mooresville, North Carolina, has the weekend off from competing in the Hooters Pro Cup Series, which will begin their Five Crown Championship Events next weekend at Jennerstown Speedway. Kauffman was the Hooters Pro Cup Northern Series Rookie Of The Year in 2003 and claimed his first Hooters Pro Cup victory this season on June 12th on the High Banks of Salem Speedway. Kauffman has made 48 Sunoco Super Series starts since he made his series debut in 2000 at 14 years old. Kauffman has 2 series victories, 7 career fast qualifier awards and 25 top ten finishes.
Pit gates will open this Saturday at Anderson Speedway at 2PM. Sunoco Super Series practice will begin at 4:30PM with qualifying at 6:30PM. The night's race program will begin at 8PM and will include the Sunoco 150 Presented By Great Deals for the Sunoco Super Series.
