CRA: Kyle Busch enters Winchester event

Salem, IN (September 30, 2003) -- Teenage racing phenom Kyle Busch, younger brother of NASCAR Winston Cup driver Kurt Busch, will be racing in this weekends 34th Annual Car Brite 400 Sunoco Super Series event at Winchester Speedway. This will be Busch's second appearance with the Sunoco Super Series and his second race with the series on the famed high banks of Winchester Speedway. Busch competed last year in the Sunoco Super Series Car Brite 200 at Winchester Speedway getting a ninth place finish, one lap down to the leaders. Busch showed he had one of the fastest cars on the track that day after coming back from three laps down after a broken wheel forced him to make an early green flag pit stop. Busch was on his way to making up the last lap he was down and getting ready to put himself into position to challenge for the win when his motor lost a cylinder. Busch managed to nurse the car home and get the top ten finish.

Busch will be driving the #84 Hendricks County Motorsports Chevrolet owned by Indianapolis businessman Jim Winters, the same team he drove for last season at Winchester. Another young aspiring driver, Louisville, Kentucky native Chris Gabehart, will drive a team car to Busch for Winters in the Car Brite 400. Gabehart has competed in selected Sunoco Super Series events during the 2003 season for the Hendricks County Motorsports team.

Busch signed a contract with famed NASCAR Winston Cup team owner Rick Hendrick prior to the beginning of the 2003 race season after competing in the ASA Racing Series last year when NASCAR rule changes wouldn't allow the 17 year old to compete in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Busch has competed in five ARCA RE/Max Series events for Hendrick so far this season with two wins. Busch has also competed in four NASCAR Busch Series events for Hendrick as a teammate to Brian Vickers with two top five finishes including a second place finish in his NASCAR Busch Series debut in May at Lowe's Motor Speedway. It was recently announced that Busch will compete full-time in the NASCAR Busch Series next year replacing Vickers, who will move up to drive for Hendricks in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. Busch will have some big shoes to fill next year, Vickers is currently leading the NACAR Busch Series points while winning three of the last six NASCAR Busch Series races.

The 34th Annual Car Brite 400 weekend will start on Friday with practice and first round qualifying for the Sunoco Super Series. On Saturday the series will have practice along with second round qualifying and a last chance race. The 34th Annual Car Brite 400 will take the green flag at 1PM on Sunday.
