Fraser top rookie at Toledo

(Toledo, Ohio - July 30) Scott Fraser continues to turn heads as he scored his second top 10 finish in as many American Speed Association ACDelco Series starts. Unofficial results of the Glass City 300 at Toledo Speedway show Fraser eighth in his No. 00 King Freight Lines Monte Carlo, the same place he finished in his series debut two weeks ago in Chicago. Eighth was the highest finish recorded in Toledo by a rookie starter on the 40-car field.

Fraser's race saw a steady advance on the field from his 37th-place start, moving to 28th by lap 10, 17th by lap 55 and eventually leading the pack on lap 147. Fraser held the point until being overtaken by Tim Sauter on lap 163. Fraser was the only car among the leaders who had not pitted for fresh tires.

"We felt like we needed track position," said Fraser. "So we elected to stay out and get up there while those guys pitted. It was strategy. We felt like we could run with them if we could get up there."

The next caution period saw Fraser duck into the pits for the maximum two tires allowed under ASA rules( under yellow conditions), emerging from the pits ninth. The next caution saw him back in the pits for two more tires, restarting 15th on the field, working way back to eighth by the checkers.

"The crew did a great job today," said Fraser. "With so many cars on such a tight track, it was a team effort for sure."

Fraser, the 1999 International Pro Stock Challenge (IPSC) champion, kept good company with a total of 13 ASA ACDelco Series championships held by finishers ahead of him. 1999 champ Tim Sauter was first, followed by Gary St. Amant (98 champ), Kevin Cywinski (97 champ), Glenn Allen Jr. (105 NASCAR Busch Grand National Series starts), and Butch Miller (three-time ASA champ). Mike Eddy, seven-time ASA champ was sixth. The top 10 was rounded out by Rick Beebe, Fraser, Scott Wimmer and Robbie Pyle. Wimmer and Pye are also ASA rookies.

Scott Fraser continues his ASA push next Sunday, August 6th at event number 12 of 20 on the ASA ACDelco season, with a race at Jennerstown Speedway in Jennerstown, Pennsylvania.

Fraser returns to Halifax, Nova Scotia for the IPSC Atlantic CAT 250 at Scotia Speedworld on August 18 and 19.
