(Brunswick, GA - January 20, 2003) Golden Isles Speedway will host the third and final stop of the 2003 Lucas Oil Triple Crown Championship Series that opens SpeedWeeks stock car racing action in 2003. After opening visits at Savannah, GA's Oglethorpe Speedway Park (Jan 31st) and Waycross (GA) Motor Speedway (Feb 1st) the three event weekend mini-championship tour caps off at the 5/8-mile oval at Golden Isles Speedway near Brunswick, GA. The weekend finale features a 60-lap $10,000 shootout.

Golden Isles Speedway is famous for producing some of the most extreme speeds known in short-track stock car racing during the past decade has hosted numerous season-opening events for the former Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series and the Southern All-Stars Racing Series. Freddy Smith, Scott Bloomquist, Billy Moyer Headline Stellar Field of Racing Talent for Feb 2nd Event

Golden Isles Speedway has a unique oiled-dirt surface which in turn allows for tremendous traction and high-speed stock car action. Last year, Dirt Late Model superstars Freddy Smith and Scott Bloomquist will return to Golden Isles Speedway for the special event after the pair dueled to the finish last year by racing bumper-to-bumper and side-by-side to the checkered flag in one of the most memorable shows in the recent history of Golden Isles Speedway. Smith of Knoxville, TN is known by a national fan following as the 'Southern Gentlemen' and is the only driver in American short-track racing history to have claimed 5 Dirt Track World Championships (DTWC). The speedy veteran has been almost unstoppable during the past 5 years at Golden Isles Speedway. Bloomquist has seen his own era of domination at the Brunswick, GA track from 1990-1995 and is a former 4-time Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series National Champion with an impressive number of wins at the lightning fast 5/8-mile oval including the all-time track qualifying record. Bloomquist's mark was established in 1992 when the Mooresburg, TN racing ace blistered around the 5/8 mile oval in an elapsed time of 16.24 seconds which equates to an average lap speed of 138.546 mph, a speed which is virtually unheard of in Dirt Late Model racing.

As part of the Lucas Oil Georgia State Super Late Model Triple Crown Championship Series, there is a $2,000 bonus for the driver with the highest three-event overall average. Last year's Lucas Oil honor went to the Elk Mound, WI driver Jimmy Mars. In addition to Freddy Smith, Scott Bloomquist and former 5-time 'World 100' champion Billy Moyer (Batesville, AR) other drivers in attendance will include former Golden Isles Speedway event winners Skip Arp (Georgetown, TN), Ronnie Johnson (Chattanooga, TN), Earl Pearson Jr. (Jacksonville, FL), Mike Carter (Blackshear, GA), plus a field of the nation's top-rated hot shoes from the ranks of short track racing including. Other drivers who will be on hand to contend for the lucrative payoff in the 60-lap Golden Isles Speedway affair will be legendary racer Mike Duvall (Cowpens, SC); former "Show-Me 100" winner Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC; former STARS champions Mike Balzano and veteran Steve Shaver each of Parkersburg, WV; former Hav-A-Tampa Rookie of the Year Dan Schlieper (Milwaukee, WI); National Late Model Sportsman champs Ivedent Lloyd (Ocala, FL) and Skip Pannell (Albany, GA); former Southeastern Dirt Late Model Champion Chris Madden (Gray Court, SC) and Illinois standout Randy Korte (Highland, IL).
