IN A GOLF BALL OR NUTSHELL: Tom Mayberry (Sellersville) wheeled the A&T Chevrolet/Golden Corral Restaurant sponsored entry from 17th starting position to first in the 30-lap Exide Batteries 30-lap NASCAR Modified stock car race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday. The win was the sixth of the season for the former track champion.

In the late model feature former drag racer Ed Trimbur (Stowe) drove his won Extreme Motorsports Painting sponsored mount to victory in the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model feature race. The win was the first of his career for the rookie stock car racer.

Saturday, August 7, 7:30 p.m. Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins Forrest Rogers Memorial 50-lap Championship for NASCAR Modifieds along with Late Models. At least 13 events of racing. $10,000 for winner of modified race. Rain date is Saturday, August 14.

Saturday, August 14, 7:30 p.m. Rain date for Forrest Rogers Memorial 50-lap championship for modifieds. If not used for rain date there will be a doubleheader show of NASCAR Modifieds and NASCAR Late Models, at least 13 events of stock car racing.

Because of existing drought conditions Sunday night rain dates have been eliminated at Grandview Speedway. ------------------------------------------------------------- HOT NIGHT GOOD FOR MAYBERRY AND TRIMBUR AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA JULY 31, 1999 . . . The heat, close to 100 degrees, did not seem to bother Tom Mayberry as he drove the A&T Chevrolet/Golden Corral sponsored Mike Kelly owned entry to victory in the 30-lap Exide Batteries NASCAR Winston Racing Series feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. The win was his sixth of the season.

"Whenever you come from back in the pack (started 17th in the 28 car field), it is always a good night. It doesn't matter how hot it gets. Things opened up well for us. It was not easy but Mike Kelly and the crew gave me a good car," said Mayberry in victory lane. "I want to thank Exide Batteries for sponsoring the night and thank the fans for coming out. It looks like a good crowd."

Mayberry pointed out that he wants to win next Saturday, August 7, when there will be $10,000 up for grabs for the running of the Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins Forrest Rogers Memorial 50-lap Modified Championship. "That is one of two we really want to win this season. The other is the $20,000 to win THP Freedom 76'er set for September 11."

In the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model feature race Ed Trimbur, a former drag racer turned oval track racer, won his first feature in his rookie season of competition. Trimbur was wheeling his own Extreme Motorsports Painting sponsored entry.

Ron Haring put his mount in front of the pack early and before the first lap was over, Jeff Strunk, one of the top point chasers on the circuit was eliminated when he and Rich Wisdo tangled in the first turn. On the restart Haring resumed command and clearly looked like it was going to take some extra effort by the challengers to get by him.

At 10 laps it was Haring and Chip Slocum battling, side by side, with Haring able to keep the number on position. And on the 17th lap Haring got wide in the fourth turn, Tom Mayberry and Slocum got by him, only to have Haring power back in front. On the 20th lap, after a restart due to a caution, Mayberry was able to power his way to the first between one and two, Haring got high, and the veteran performer was able to hold off challenges from Chip Slocum to win his sixth of the season worth $2200. Second spent went to Slocum (Ewing Township, NJ) followed by current NASCAR Track Modified point leader Terry Meitzler (Kutztown). Ron Haring (Allentown) held on for fourth while Donny Erb (Douglassville) had a strong finish for fifth.

The 20-lap Exide Batteries Late Model feature had Kyle Pensinger in front for the first four laps searching for his first win. At the four lap marker Ed Trimbur moved his entry in front of the pack and showed the talents of a veteran to hold off challenges from multi time champions John Giesler, Dean Stoudt and former champion Lou Egrie to win his first career victory in his rookie season of competition. In fact Trimbur was even able to hold off challenges from five feature winner Jeff Teets. Second spot went to Dean Stoudt (East Greenville) followed by Jeff Teets (Coplay), Junior Grebe (Boyertown) and Lou Egrie (Philadelphia).

Qualifying heat races for the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Modifieds went to Danny Erb, Cliff Quinn, Terry Meitzler and Jeff Strunk. The consolation races went to Smokey Warren and Jon Kellner. The Automotive Machining Services Cash Dash was won by Terry Meitzler earning him $350.

In the Late Model preliminaries wins went to Ed Trimbur, Casey Ebright and John Durling while the consolation was won by Ron Chrisman.

Bill Gensler earned the Kochel Equipment First Alternate Cash Award for the modifieds. And unofficially there was a tie for the Timber Wolf Smokeless Tobacco Hard Charger Award worth $200. Mayberry came from 17th to finish first and Rick Schaffer came from 24th to finish 8th. Each gained 16 spots in the feature event.

Family Night produced a strong crowd of fans, lots of youngsters who were admitted free to Exide Batteries Night. In addition Exide gave away a lot of prizes to the fans, the Exide Batteries Winston Cup car was on display, more than 100 Exide employees were on hand, two fans went home with cash as they won the 50/50 drawing, and three fans went home with tickets to a Mark Chestnut concert at the Bethlehem MusicFest on August 22. Additional tickets will be given away this Saturday for Mark Chestnut and Kenny Rogers. In addition several youngsters under the age of 8 won some neat prizes as a result of participating in the "question of the night."

One of the most prestigious stock car racing events in this area, the Forrest Rogers Memorial, a 50-lap championship modified stock car race, will be presented on Saturday, August 7 at 7:30 p.m. Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins sponsored race will pay $10,000 to the winner. And there will be a full show of NASCAR Late Model stock car racing. Rain date is set for Saturday, August 14.

Raffle tickets for the Champions Trip '99 continue to be sold. For a $20.00 raffle ticket, only 129 being sold, the winner gets a trip for two (worth more than $2600). The trip goes out of Los Angeles with a cruise, four nights, to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico. Then there is three and one half mights in Las Vegas at the Treasure Island Hotel on the strip. A lot of extras. THAT IS THE GOOD NEWS. If we can not sell enough raffle tickets by August 15, all funds collected will be refunded. At present about half the tickets have been sold. Of course if you do not feel lucky you can sign up to go on the cruise/trip and get all information from Marilyn Saxton. There are more than 30 people already making the trip.

Coming up on Thursday, August 12, is the 99-lap CARQUEST Super DIRT Series Modified stock car racing event. This race features many of the top names in dirt track modified stock car racing. Racing will get the green at 7:30 p.m.
