Owego, NY - Supermodified star Greg Furlong has announced his plans to compete in Sunday's Sunoco Race of Champions series race at Tioga Motorsports Park in Owego, NY. The 2000 & 2001 Oswego Speedway Supermodified champion will drive the Hooker Limousine #31. "This will be a great opportunity for both of us," said car owner Steve Hooker, who campaigns the Gail Clark powered Troyer Modified weekly at Tioga Motorsports Park. "Greg is an extremely talented driver with a lot of experience at Oswego Speedway."
The alliance began from similar racing and business goals. "We're both in the manufactured housing business," continued Hooker, "so one minute we're talking racing and the next^Ê manufactured housing." Furlong, who won the 1999 & 2000 Budweiser International Classic Supermodified events at Oswego Speedway, is also scheduled to drive the Hooker Limousine mount in the 2002 Sunoco Race of Champions at Oswego on September 21st.
This Sunday's D C Computer Works 75 will be Furlong's first look at Tioga Motorsports Park. "The one time I was at Tioga to race," said the 29 year old Hannibal, NY driver, "we rained out." Furlong is certainly a force to be reckoned with at the Oswego Speedway, holding the supermodified track record of 16.650 (135.14 mph) without a wing. When asked about the opportunity to beat Tony Stewart, Furlong replied, "I think we'll have the car to do it," and added, "It would certainly be a great accomplishment."
