HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (May 26, 2001) - Hardeeville Motor Speedway observed Little League Night with racing action "in full swing". The track hosted the Jet Food Stores Legends Cars Masters Classic with HMS-regular Tommy Jordan picking up the win, along with Chris Beach, Don Dean, Ellis Huggins and Marcus Dampier capturing victories Saturday night as well.

Starting from the eighth position, Chris Beach made his way to the front of the pack to pick up his third win in a row and fourth victory of the season in the O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models. The 50-lap feature had plenty of action with six caution periods to slow the event. On lap 15, the leader, Tommy Porter Jr. of Savannah, entered the pit area to change a flat tire. Beach gained the lead, with Porter re-entering the track just in time for the green flag. Beach held off the hard-charging Skeeter Godbee of Sylvania, Ga. Porter was on his way back up through the field, when the last caution flag waved on lap 45, to allow Porter the opportunity to challenge Beach. The 16-year-old native of Hardeeville, S.C. held off Porter to tie the number of wins each has in the O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models division.

The Jet Food Stores Legends Cars Masters Classic went caution-free for 40 laps. Twelve cars took the green flag for the chance at $500 to win the event. Hardeeville Motor Speedway regular, Tommy Jordan of Hartsville, S.C., took the lead on lap four from Dwight Pilgrim of Suwanee, Ga. and stretched out to a lengthy lead and lapped most of the field by the time the checkered flag waved. Pilgrim remained in second position, with Danny Snell of Sandersville, Ga. picking up the third position.

Six cars took the green flag in the Xtreme Stock Cars event, with Don Dean of Sheldon, S.C. starting from the pole. Dean led flag-to-flag, never giving up the top spot. The No. 77 of Scott "The Problem Child" Thorne stopped on the track, coming out of turn two, to bring out the only caution on lap 21. Dean was contested by Christie Anderson, but was able to hold off the Ellabell, Ga. resident. Donald Cannon, a three-time winner this season, finished third. Dean became the fourth different winner this year in the Xtreme Stock Cars division.

Ellis Huggins of Richmond Hill, Ga. returned to home plate, the winner's circle, after blowing his motor last weekend to take his sixth victory this year. Glenn Mappus of Ridgeville, S.C. took the lead on lap one and held it until lap 21, when Huggins overpowered him. Huggins went on to take the 25-lap, caution free feature event, with Mappus finishing in second place and Roy Cox finishing in third position.

The Mini Stocks event started with a big "hit", as Mark Terry of Rincon, Ga. got collected and turned in to the turn four wall. Terry was uninjured, but unable to return in his No. 95 Ford Mustang. Stephen Moore of St. George, S.C. held the point until lap 17, when the No. 17 of Chief Johnny Brown from Bluffton, S.C. blew his motor and spun. During the caution period, Moore ran out of gas and was forced to take his car to the pit area, relinquishing the lead to Marcus Dampier of Savannah. Dampier led the rest of the way to pick up his first win of the season and become the only other driver to make the trip to Victory Lane in the Mini Stocks division.

Hardeeville Motor Speedway will recognize 2001 Graduates next Saturday, June 2. All Graduates presenting their cap from graduation will be admitted free. Scheduled to compete are the O.C.
