Marybeth Harrison & Tim-BR-Mart Team Up Again for the 2001 SCCBC Invitational Race at the Molson Indy Vancouver
August 30, 2001
Vancouver, BC - Race car driver Marybeth Harrison has again teamed up with Vancouver-based Tim-BR Mart - Western Canada's largest buying group of building materials - to drive the Tim-BR Mart decaled #27 Monte Carlo at the 2001 SCCBC Invitational race at the Molson Indy Vancouver.
Harrison's car is owned and maintained by ProFormance Racing, an Aldergrove-based company that delivers corporate entertainment programs using their fleet of twelve 355 horsepower Monte Carlo's and Gran Prix's and also rents the cars to race car drivers like Harrison who want competitive racing but don't want the hassels or expenses of maintaining their own race car. This weekend, drivers from throughout the Lower Mainland have rented ProFormance race cars and will be competing against Harrison for the ProFormance Racing winner trophy. They include:
Glenn Nixon, Mission BC sponsored by Surespan Bridges and Metro-Can Construction. Glenn won last year's the SCCBC Invitational.
John Grosso, Seattle WA sponsored by Holley Carburetors and K&N Filters
Glenn Mueller, Richmond BC sponsored by Green Line Sales Ltd., Toyo Canada, Drivers Edge, Maverick's on the Waterfront, K&H Dispatch and Rock 101
Brendan Mann, Vancouver BC sponsored by Aspen Trailers
Robert Landry, Langley BC sponsored by Pennzoil
Tony Morris Jr., Vancouver BC sponsored by Portable Solutions, Café Il Nido, Media Cars Inc., The Children's Wish Foundation and Brown Brothers Autosport.
Corey Rudl, North Vancouver BC sponsored by Tex Transmissions.
Alan Huston, North Vancouver BC sponsored by Vandermeer Forest Products.
Harrison fell in love with racing after taking a high-performance driving course with ProFormance Racing in Calgary in 1993. She went on to race karts from 1993 to 1995 before making the switch to sedan racing. She was Rookie of the Year in 1996 driving an equally prepared Toyota Corolla in ProFormance Racing's Toyota/BF Goodrich Series. She came 2nd in the championship the following year and broke the track record for her class. In 1998, she competed in her Fountain Tire Racing-sponsored Formula 1600 taking the Canadian Formula Drivers Association Championship. In 1999, she competed in Formula 2000 and last year raced for Glacier Bear Racing in the Trans-Am series.
Harrison has instructed with ProFormance Racing since 1993 but this year took on a full time position as General Manager. Harrison's Trans-Am team had been unable to find the funding necessary for a 2001 Trans-Am season so the job came along at a good time and as she states, is "perfect for me. I get to stay involved in an industry I love and do the occasional race which is great!"
