I-94 Raceway Becomes First Minnesota Track in Asa Racing Member Track Program

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 13, 2004) -- The first Minnesota racetrack to re-sign with the ASA Racing Member Track program is I-94 Raceway, the 0.375-mile oval in Sauk Centre.

This season the track will run five regular classes, including the ASA Super Late Models, Modifieds, Legends, Thunder Cars and UCARS. Located near the intersection of I-94 and Highway 71, the regular Saturday night program will be augmented with a variety of special events such as the ASA Late Model Series and the MARS Super Late Models. The 2005 season opens on April 30.

"We cut down from seven to five divisions to be more fan- and driver-friendly this season," said Tim Olson, co-owner of the racetrack with his brother Ted. "We listened to the fans and went back to a five class program so that they would not be sitting in the stands late into the night. This will be better for families who want to bring their children to experience the thrills of live racing."

Olson indicated that in another effort to be more family-oriented, the track intends to give some classes a night off during the season to allow the competitors some "non-racing" time at home with the family.

One unique element of I-94 Raceway, an ASA Racing Member Track Level I participant, is that they allow fans who cannot make it to the racetrack in person to follow the action online with live Web camera. This can be accessed via the track Web site anytime cars are on the track during the Thursday practice sessions and Saturday race programs.

For more information or to see the 2005 schedule, fans can visit the track online at www.I94Raceway.com or telephone (320) 352-5263.

"Minnesota race fans spend so much of their time indoors in the winter that they rejoice when spring comes and they can get out of the house and out to the racetrack," explained Dennis Huth, president of Racing Speed Associates which now owns and operates the ASA Racing Member Track program. "They have to be among the most dedicated and passionate race fans and the drivers at I-94 Raceway have an extremely loyal following. This was one of the first racetracks to ever sign with the ASA Racing Member Track program, and I am thrilled that they are continuing their membership in 2005."

"We were one of the first to sign with the ASA Racing Member Track program because my brother and I believe in Dennis (Huth) and believe that he can make something out of this program," Olson explained. "He has already helped our track to grow and get better."

Tracks and regional touring series that join the ASA Racing Member Track Level I program are eligible to receive contributions to their year-end point fund, marketing assistance, enhanced participant accident insurance, and will be the spot for today's fans to watch the stars of tomorrow learn the trade. Huth indicated that he has other exciting ideas and plans to help take the local racing programs to new levels and to further enhance the coverage of the tracks and series competitors.

To learn more of the Daytona Beach, Fla.-based Racing Speed Associates or the ASA Racing Member Track program, call (386) 383-0368 or send an e-mail to asaracingmt@earthlink.net. A new Web site is currently under development and should be live early in 2005.
