IMCA: Las Vegas dirt racing

LAS VEGAS -- Racing action was in full-swing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's half-mile dirt oval as the Thunder Stox division battled in a special second-over-the-line wins event.

Chris Bray captured the special Thunder Stox event by crossing the finish line second. The highlight of the event occurred when the front straightaway was transformed into a demolition derby and the entire field of cars bunched together pushing David Scott over the finish line first.

"I was hanging behind Chuck Trickle," said Bray. "The next thing I knew, I was pushed across the finish line."

Jason Pike hammered the competition Saturday evening in the IMCA Late Model and IMCA Grand American Modified divisions. Pike battled with Rick Rochelle early in the IMCA Late Model main event, but was able to reach the checkered flag first.

"We just got a handle on the car," said Pike. "It was a great run." Pike captured his second win of the evening in the 25-lap IMCA Grand American Modified main event. Jeff Perkins and Dan Fitzgerald provided fans with an exciting show as they battled for second place. In the feature, Pike was able to hold his lead through four caution flags and charge to victory.

"The car was set up great tonight," said Pike. "I had a good night."

In the Hitchin' Post/Exiss Legends Cars main event, Kyle Busch raced to victory after an incredible battle with Sonny Wahl. On the last lap, Wahl lost control of his car enabling Busch to captured the event win. "This dirt track is tough," said Busch. " I have to hold it together." After the event race fans were invited to watch a fireworks display hosted by The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
