LINCOLN, NE-(August 30, 2001)-Kevin Larkins (IMCA Modified) Terry Shearer (IMCA Hobby Stock) and Jay Schilling (Classic Modified) wee crowned Nebraska State Champions on Thursday night at Nebraska State Fair Park Raceway. It was the fourth and final night of racing at the 2001 Nebraska State Fair.

Rik Gropp led the IMCA Modified field to the green flag for their 25 lap feature with Larkins coming from the second row to challenge immediately. Larkins assumed the lead on lap two and set sail, having nearly a straightway lead by lap eight. While Larkins was coasting along in the lead, a four car battle was raging for the runner-up spot, between Doug Deterding, David Thome, Gropp and Scott Styskal. By lap 10 Johnny Saathoff had joined the battle for 2nd. These five swapped positions throughout the rest of race and were joined by Ronnie Wallace, who had broken into the top five for the first time on lap 20. On lap 23 the yellow flew for a stalled Dave Trauernicht, which eliminated Larkins big lead and put Saathoff right on his tail. Kevin was able to control the last two laps for the win followed by Saathoff, Deterding, Styskal, Thome, Wallace, Gropp, James Kleinheksel, Eddie Edwards and Jon Schwartz.

Derek Theim jumped out in front of the IMCA Hobby Stock A Feature, but soon both Terry Shearer and Brian Woolsey had overhauled him. With Shearer on the inside and Woolsey on the outside, they waged a duel that took the to the checkered flag, never more that a car length apart. Shearer won by 3/4 of a car length at the finish line to claim the win. Theim finished third, with Eric Cerny and Shawn Berry rounding out the top five.

Jay Schilling led all the way in the Classic Modified Main, followed by Darren Pollmann, Jared Hilker, J. C. Ourada and Larry Pollmann.
