The Franklin Root Trophy stays in Indiana as Lloyd Kirkham takes the Demolitions Event National Tour (DENT) 2001 National Championship Sunday at the Indianapolis Speedrome. Kirkham outlasted Kansas' Kirk Amos and the 1999 champion Ohio's Scott Zizelman. Defending champ Ron Stepro fell out late in the 20 car feature.

120 cars from 23 states and Canada met at Indy's Eastside speedway to slug it out for a $10,000 top prize. The final duel between Kirkham and Amos consisted of fifteen minutes of hitting and scrambling for track position with only Kirkham running at the end. A special "Mad Dog Award" was given to Minnesota's Andy Hanson with a $1000 check for his hard hits in the feature. Michigan's Jason Goff grabbed $1000 for Best-Appearing car with a special tribute to Dale Earnhardt.

The lights go on at the Speedrome this Friday, May 25 for our busiest night yet. Twin 25-lap qualifying races will set the lineup for the 1st Annual Yardarm 100 for the Speedrome Stock Class Cars. The Late Models roll in for a 35-Lap Figure-8 and are joined by the Sunshine Cafe Roadrunners, Modifieds, Legend Cars and Bandoleros.

Saturday the stockers hold their Yardarm 100 lapper, the Late Models duke it out with a 50-Lap Figure-8 and the Roadrunners wrap up the show. <pre> 2001 DENT Demolition Derby National Championship Champion: Glenn Wagner - IN - - $10,000 Second: Kirk Amos - KS - - $2500 Third: Scott Zizelmann - OH - - $1500 "Mad Dog" - Andy Hanson - MN - - $1000 Best Appearing Car - Jason Goff - - $1000
