</pre> The first event of the 2001 regular season at the Indianapolis Speedrome was a day filled with old friends and new faces. 2000 Late Model Champion Bruce Tunny swept the features and took fast time in his Troy Motors rocket snatching the points lead early. Returning champions ate Bruce's dust all day with Bobby Douthitt, Jack Dossey Jr., Rodney Sizemore, Wayne Arnold and Mike St. John all unable to top the hard-charging mason. Arnold's return was bittersweet with a heat win and a chance at the oval victory snatched away with contact while leading late in the race. Chuck's Race Car Parts Stock Cars were led by David Moore who overcame early problems in qualifying to take the 25-Lap opener. Moore dedicated the win to his racing hero Dale Earnhardt. David and his brother Danny each took heats in the preliminaries to make for a successful outing for the family that was one of the first in the track for registration last week. The steamin' screamin' demons of the fifth-mile oval gave their typical slam-bang show. Sunshine Cafe Roadrunner wins went to Jeff Smith, Shawn Kloss, and a huge surprise win to Mark Waugh Jr. on his first time on the track. The Bomber Figure-8 victory goes to Ken Casto on HIS first ever figure-8 race over a field of former winners. Racing goes under the lights this Saturday with qualifications at 6:00 and first race at 7:00.
