Indianapolis Speedrome results 2001-07-20

Friday - July 20, 2001 - - - -It was the luck of the draw and a strong qualifying run that gifted Billy George with the pole start on Friday Night's Carmel Sod Modified 50-Lap Feature but only hard driving in tight traffic carried him to the win. Points leader Jim Begley met with the Speedrome concrete and suffered a bent rim with 20 laps to go. Begley tried to soldier home but dropped out with three laps to go. Begley's mishap caused a huge shake-up in the Modifieds championship points putting Billy Boyer on top followed by George, Begley, Doug Greig and Bruce Newlin Jr. The Race City Auto Sales Legend Cars were a wild ride for Doug Greig but the Speedrome veteran snatched the win and increased his lead in the season's points. Bill Fortner and Jerry Green snagged the Sunshine Cafe Roadrunner features while Oza Hoosier topped in the Yardarm Bomber Figure-8' s and James Robertson won in the Bandoleros.

The fee is $50 for ten laps with safety equipment available at the track. The session runs from 9AM to 2PM - - - - Sonny Thompson Memorial/Hall of Fame Night with the Stocks, Roadrunners and late Models with a full oval program and the 20th Annual Sonny Thompson Memorial 100-Lap Figure-8 - - -  Spectator gates open at 5:00, First race at 7:00.
