Kalamazoo Speedway results 2005-06-04

With the largest crowd of the year on hand, nearly 4000 people were treated to a fantastic night of short track racing action. There was great racing action, plenty of free give aways, and yet another thrilling fireworks display to close out the night at the Zoo.

Rick Sexton from Mattawan padded his Wayland Chevrolet Super Late Model point lead by capturing the 50 lap feature win Saturday night at Kalamazoo Speedway. Sexton patiently worked his way from 7th starting spot and overcame a variety of contenders competing for the victory. The action was slowed after lap 1 when Eric McGlothlen spun. Al McGlothlen took the lead on lap 2 until Todd Harrington assumed the point on lap 7. Jeff Ganus spun on lap 20 while running 2nd. Sexton took control of the event at the 1/3 mark with the race being slowed one final time for a Ryan Wheeler backstretch spin on lap 38. Following Sexton at the stripe were Andy Bozell who advanced from 14th starting spot, Phil Massuch in 3rd, Harrington 4th and Phil Bozell 5th. 6-10 were Curt Spalding, Steve Needles, John Chapman, Hank Miller and Jeff Vochaska. Bob Teadt, Jr. went for a wild ride in the 1st SLM heat race. Teadt hit the wall in turn 3 flipping onto the driver's side and sliding against the wall all the way through turns 3 and 4. Teadt went to the hospital for a check-up and was released later in the evening. Heat winners were Ryan Wheeler, Ganus and A. Bozell.

Best Way Disposal Limited Late Model point leader Brandon Lyons scored his 6th 35 lap feature win. Kyle VanSparrentak was the early leader with Brian Bergakker taking over on lap 14. Bergakker would lead until Lyons assumed command on lap 24. Bergakker would finish in the runner-up spot with VanSparrentak 3rd, Michelle Sexton 4th and Rich Hardy 5th. LLM rookie Jon Orr was 6th followed by Mike Brooks, Luke Krick, Matt Krywosinski and Jason Simpson. Heat wins went to Lyons, Hardy and Krywosinski. Jason Holibaugh won the B feature.

Bryan VanZile cruised to his 3rd E&D's High Performance Sport Stock feature win. VanZile worked his way up from 12th starting position. Trent Hellenga appeared headed toward his 1st feature win only to drop out late in the event with transmission problems. Courtney Weston finished 2nd with BJ Orr 3rd, Cory Kruzel 4th and Ben Raber 5th. The 2nd five consisted of Todd Foote, Ron Coburn, Joe Reaume, Glen Fisher and Del Heckelman. Heat winners were VanZile and Weston.

Lloyd Brooks captured his first ever 20 lap Home Depot Pure Stock feature win. Brooks was able to get by early leader Brad Shellenbarger and held off a last lap bid by Shellenbarger to win by half a car length at the line. Fourteen year old Mark Shook finished 3rd with point leader Greg Haynes 4th and Butch Glass 5th. 6th-10th were Jimmy Wheaton, Frank Abraham, Chad Wycoff, Jim Belka and Mark Fliearman. Pure Stock heat winners were Glass and Fliearman.

Kalamazoo Speedway is gearing up for this weekend's Open Wheel Spectacular on Saturday, June 11. We will see the return of the winged warriors of the Midwest Supermodified Association. Also on hand will be the USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midgets, USA Modifieds and Legends Cars. All 4 of the regular weekly classes will have the night off. Pit gates will open at noon, hot laps at 2PM with racing action at 7!
