Kentucky field set by points

SPARTA, Ky. (September 17, 2004) - For the third consecutive race, Kevin Cywinski will sit on the pole of an ASA National Tour race without turning a lap in qualifying. This time, remnants of Hurricane Ivan doused the Kentucky Speedway and cancelled the qualifying session for Saturday night's BFGoodrich Tires 225.

The starting lineup will be based on 2004 owner's points, which means Tim Sauter will lineup second, followed by Mike Garvey, Robbie Pyle and Byran Reffner rounding out the top five.

"It's kind of funny because the guys talked all winter about how they wanted more poles this year, and ironically we've been getting more poles. It's just that I haven't been the one sitting behind the wheel doing it," Cywinski said with a laugh. "It definitely eases your mind a little bit knowing you are going to be starting up front for the start of the race and hopefully after practice we will be up there all day tomorrow."

With a break predicted in the weather this evening, ASA officials elected to forgo the qualifying session in favor of running two practice sessions to allow the teams sufficient time to adjust their vehicles for the 225.0- mile race, the longest of the ASA National Tour season. In making this decision, they also agreed to start all 37 cars that are on the Kentucky Speedway property, upping the field from the scheduled 34-starters shown on the entry form.

The last time the ASA National Tour visited the 1.5-mile facility in May, Scott Lagasse Jr. defeated Wade Day by just 0.014-seconds, the closest margin of victory in Kentucky Speedway history for any racing series.
