LAKEVILLE, MN (March 19, 2002) -- Scott LaFavre, owner of the LaFavre Racing Teams, has announced additional changes with the LaFavre Racing Teams organization.
In January, veteran driver Mike Garvey left the team and there were other personnel changes inside the organization. In addition, a number of responsibilities were delegated among different members of the team.
"We are right-sizing our company," says LaFavre. "Economics, sponsorship changes and a new focus are the main reasons for the reorganization. The changes made to the organization will enable LaFavre Racing to continue to be the base of operation for two fu ll-time ASA teams and a third ASA team will provide opportunities for several drivers to participate in the ASA Racing Series on a part-time basis."
LaFavre also has appointed former Tecumseh Distribution Manager and Tecumseh Motorsports Director Dick Melius, as Director of Operations to his staff. Melius retired from Tecumseh at the end of 2001 completing a 36-year career with the manufacturer.
"This is a huge addition to our organization," stated LaFavre. "Dick Melius knows and understands the nuances of racing, ownership and sponsorship. His peers commend him for the effort and success that he has had managing the Tecumseh Motorsports program. He has done a remarkable job in managing the relationship between Tecumseh, LaFavre Racing and ASA. His broad racing and marketing background will be a tremendous asset to our company.""
Melius will be responsible for team coordination, managing team sponsorships, marketing and special events. Melius continues to also manage the Tecumseh Motorsports Program for its involvement with LaFavre Racing and Tecumseh's ASA Racing Series sponsorshi p.
"Our strength is in our people," said LaFavre. "The right people develop the right chemistry needed for strong teamwork -- and successful racing is all about teamwork."
LaFavre Racing Teams will also field teams competing in the Re/Max Challenge Series, Midwest All-Star Racing Series and at Elko (MN) Speedway in late models.
