Mother Nature, the big winner in 2005 thus far for the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts.

The ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts season has had one dominating factor during the 2005 season thus far; Weather! Mother Nature has played a huge role in the season so far and has made life difficult for the series' drivers, teams, officials, and fans as the series has only two shows out of 16 in the books so far. Mother Nature has forced series officials to already reschedule two events to later in the season, creating a bit of a logjam once the month of July rolls around.

"This weather is really tough on the teams, series and tracks," said Series President, Ron Varney. "I understand that this is a hardship for all of us to have to change our schedule due to weather" Continued Varney. "We all need to just make up our minds that we are going to get through it and have some fun in the process. Remember we are doing the thing that we love the most with the best people out there," ended Varney.

Teams that attended the Illiana Race on June 4th will be awarded the five show-up points.

After the next series event at the I-70 (MO) Speedway on Saturday June 18th, the ASALMS will then take an originally scheduled week off before embarking on perhaps the busiest month and a half in series history. Over an eight week span, the series will run exactly half of the 2005 season! Eight of the 16 shows will be conducted over an eight week span! Beginning over the Fourth of July weekend, the ASALMS will reinstate the traditional, "Michigan weekend" with two shows in two nights. Over the years, the now defunct ASA National Tour would schedule back to back shows in the state of Michigan at the Tri-City Motor Speedway on a Friday night and then travel over to the Berlin Raceway on a Saturday to complete the weekend.

Although not originally planned, the same concept will apply to the ASALMS this season, thanks to the weather. Beginning on Friday July 1st at the Kalamazoo (MI) Speedway for the Kalamazoo 100 Presented by Tough Coat. Then the following day, Saturday July 2nd, the ASALMS teams will venture over to the Calhoun County (MI) Speedway for the rescheduled Snap-On Tools 100 Presented by Lane Automotive and Q106fm.

"We have a great opportunity with the Mid Michigan Double weekend to re-instate some of the traditions that the old ASA use to do," said Varney. "Maybe we can institute some ASA LMS traditions that will also be remembered for a long time to come."

Once the Michigan weekend is completed, the teams take another scheduled week off before beginning the most grueling stretch of events in series history! Beginning on Saturday July 16th at the Mansfield (OH) Motorsports Speedway for the Buckeye 100, the series will run six consecutive shows on six consecutive weekends! After Mansfield, the ASALMS will return to the Illiana (IN) Motor Speedway for the rescheduled, Gibson Chevrolet 100 Presented by GM Performance Parts on Saturday July 23rd. Then on Saturday July 30th, the ASALMS returns to the Indianapolis Raceway Park for the Indiana 100 Presented by Howe Racing Enterprises.

The month of August will begin the following Friday, August 5th and a return trip to the Baer Field (IN) Speedway for the International Gold Cup 100. Then on Saturday August 13th, the series will make its inaugural appearance at the beautiful Jennerstown (PA) Speedway for the Pennsylvania 100. Finally to complete the grueling stretch of events, the ASALMS will head to the Sandusky (OH) Speedway for the Ohio 100. "This last stretch will definitely separate to real contenders of the ASA LMS Championship and those who are just running for fun," stated Varney.

The cars and stars of the ASA Late Model Series will make its longest tow of the year to the ultra-fast high-banked ½ mile of the I-70 (MO) Speedway in Odessa, Missouri for the series inaugural appearance in the Show-Me State. The Kansas City Star 100 will highlight the first ever appearance for the series in the state of Missouri on Saturday June 18th and the event will now serve as race number three on the 2005 series tour.
