ASA Late Model Driver Keeton Hanks of Auburn, Kentucky had some Florida Fun at the 2005 WinterNationals at the Orlando Speedworld.
Keeton finished the week with a fourth overall in points for the Legends Winter National Series. He had a DNF the first night, a 6th place finish the second night and 3rd place finishes both Thursday and Friday nights.
On Friday, February 18th, Keeton was asked to race the MMRA Baby Grand car# 29 Crossroads IGA, Jr Food Stores, Save-A-Lot, sponsored Baby Grand, owned by Mark Muffler Motorsports.
Driver, Lindsey Daniels, was injured in a practice run crash on Thursday. Since Keeton had not qualified the car the previous night he had to start in the rear of the 17 car field. By lap 10 he was sitting in 3rd position and waited till about lap 25 where he took the lead and went on to win the 35 lap feature.
The MMRA Baby Grand feature was cut from 50 to 35 laps after a rash of crashes eliminated much of the field.
Nick Proffitt led the opening 22 laps before Chris Wilson took over for a lap. Keeton Hanks of Auburn, KY took over on lap 24 and led the remaining distance to take the win over Wilson, Proffitt, Clifford Pugh, Tiger Tyler Brown and Tyler Cole. They were the only drivers to finish.
Orlando Speedworld wrapped up the 2005 Winternationals Saturday night with a "Fun Run" for the remaining RE/MAX Legends cars in attendance and the grand finale for MMRA action.
