LM: Rookie of the Year award named for former driver

ASA Late Model Series Rookie of the Year Award to be named after the late Pat Bourdow.

The ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts is pleased to announce that the series will be honoring one of the most popular drivers to run the ASA National Tour with an award named in his memory. The late Pat Bourdow, who ran the ASA National Tour for many seasons before losing a long term battle with Stomach Cancer in February 2003, will be honored with the renaming of the rookie of the year award and trophy. The 2005 Rookie of the Year award and trophy will now and for years to come will be known in the ASA Late Model Series as the Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year Award! "This is a great way to honor Pat, it is a great way to keep him in our hearts and thoughts for many years to come," commented Series President Ron Varney. "We will also be debuting in 2005 a two seat ride a-long car that was one of Pat's old ASA cars," continued Varney.

Bourdow, a long time ASA National Tour regular and Michigan fan favorite, posted a career best finish of third at Auto City (MI) Speedway, near Flint MI in 1993. During the awards banquet honoring the 2005 ASA Late Model Season, representatives from the Bourdow family will be on hand to present the trophy at our awards banquet. The family owns Bourdow Trucking, a family business located in Saginaw, Michigan, that had been involved in auto racing throughout Pat's racing days.

Bourdow, who called Kochville MI home, was a former track champion at Tri-City (MI) Motor Speedway as well as Dixie (MI) Motor Speedway and Auto City in divisions ranging from Street Stocks all the way up to the modern day Outlaw Super Late Models. "I grew up watching and idolizing Pat since I was a kid at Auto City, Dixie, and especially Tri-City, his home track, and this means a lot to me to be able to talk about Pat at every race with the Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year title chase." Said Traveling Public Address Announcer, Matt Prieur. "I have so many memories of Pat and just thinking about him makes me smile and this award will continue to honor his memory for years to come."
