Mike Eddy and Jimmie Johnson Ready for Third Round of Challenge

PENDLETON, Ind. — American Speed Association veteran Mike Eddy and 1998 Rookie of the Year Jimmie Johnson will both be eligible for a $10,000 bonus if they can take the checkers at Jennerstown (Pa.) Speedway in the September 12 Pontiac Excitement 400 prese nted by Jani-King, the third event in the $50,000 Jani-King Triple Crown Challenge.

Jani-King, the World’s Largest Commercial Cleaning franchiser, and the ACDelco Challenge Series teamed up to offer the $50,000 Jani-King Triple Crown Challenge, a $50,000 bonus that would go to any driver who could win at Memphis Motorsports Park, La Cross e Speedway and at Jennerstown. A $10,000 bonus would be awarded to any driver who could win two of the three.

Jimmie Johnson will be looking for the $10,000 bonus after winning the June 12 race at Memphis, the first jewel of the Triple Crown. Last year at Jennerstown, Johnson started fourth and finished the race in 10th, one of his 15 top-10 finishes. This seaso n, Johnson sits third in the points with one win and eight top-five finishes.

Seven-time ASA National Champion Mike Eddy also qualified to win the $10,000 bonus by winning the August 8 event at La Crosse. Eddy will head into Jennerstown trying to defend his win there last year. Eddy, a five-time winner at Jennerstown, has one vict ory and two top-five finishes in just three races this season.

Activities for the Pontiac Excitement 400 presented by Jani-King are scheduled to get started on Saturday, September 11 with a two-hour practice session beginning at 11 a.m. Wheeler Pontiac Pole Qualifications are set for 3 p.m. with a final practice sess ion slated for 4 p.m.

On Sunday, September 12, the ASA on-track autograph is slated for 11 a.m., with pre-race ceremonies scheduled for 12:30 p.m. The Pontiac Excitement 400 presented by Jani-King is scheduled to go green at 1 p.m.
