MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Derrick Gilchrist of Raleigh, North Carolina, tied an American Speed Association record with the third win of his rookie season, capturing the Time Warner Cable 200 at The Milwaukee Mile.

Gilchrist won earlier this season at New River Valley Speedway in Virginia and Indianapolis Raceway Park. Kevin Cywinski, the 1997 ASA National Champion, won three events in 1996 on his way to capturing Rookie of the Year honors. The victory for Gilchrist , who remains the only rookie to win this year, was worth $21,122 of the $169,000 purse.

Front-row starter Jimmie Johnson topped the field for the opening 18 laps before surrendering the lead position to Mike Eddy, Tim Sauter and rookie Tristan Dupuis. Johnson retook the race lead on lap 122 and held the point through lap 182. A tightening condition on Johnson's Pennzoil Chevrolet allowed Gilchrist to pass Johnson and go unchallenged through the final 17 circuits.

The 22-year-old Gilchrist, driving the Ken Schrader owned Greased Lightning Chevrolet, was followed by Johnson, Eddy, Sauter, and Bob Senneker to the checkers. Current ACDelco Challenge Series points leader Mike Miller finished sixth in the event and saw his point lead dwindle to 66 points ahead of Sauter. Johnson moved into third, 145 points behind Miller and defending ACDelco Challenge Series champion Gary St. Amant of Ohio drops to fourth, 193 points out of the top position.

The American Speed Association returns to action at the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Monday, September 6, with the Miller Lite 300 at 2 p.m. (Eastern). The Miller Lite 300 will be televised live on TNN Motorsports.
