BRIGHTBILL CONTINUES STREAK -- WINS NEW EGYPT 10th

New Egypt, NJ, September 12, 1998...... Kenny Brightbill of Sinking Spring, PA captured his tenth win of the season, and his 5th in the last six, at the New Egypt Speedway in the 30 lap Modified feature Saturday night. Brightbill started 17th on the grid and charged to the front by lap #9. Brightbill ran his personal hot streak to five wins in the last 8 days, as he has won every race he has entered the last two weekends. “This track has alot of different passing lanes,” stated Brightbill, “that allowed us to be able to get to the front quickly tonight.”

Brian Jones lead the 25 car field down to starter Frank Resta’s green flag. Jones took command of the field and held the lead for the first five laps and several caution periods. On lap 6, tenth place starter Fritz Epright raced into the top spot in the Michael Bros. #51m followed by Jones, Ralph Rue and Bob Bauma. Both Brightbill and 1998 point champion Roger Laureno were both on the move as they entered the top five. By lap eight they were on Epright’s bumper, and as they ran down the backstretch on lap #9, Brightbill made the winning pass driving under Epright’s machine. After a final caution on lap #14, Brightbill raced away from the competition as he dominated the second half of the event. Laureno and Epright hooked up in a crowd pleasing duel for second, which finally saw Laureno getting the runner-up spot for good with just 6 laps to go. Brightbill took home the top prize of $2500 by half of a straightaway and in the process moved into second in the current point standings. Laureno of Ivyland PA brought the Tanner Dairy Store #36 home second followed by Epright of Whitehouse Station NJ. Brian Jones of East Windsor NJ turned his luck around as he captured fourth in his own #3J. Gary Butler returned for the first time after a two week absence to finish fifth in the Dave’s Flemington Collision #68. Rounding out the top ten were Mark Bitner, Bauma, Tim Tanner Jr., Mike Sena and Scott Van Gorder. The three heat winners were Jones, Todd Singley, and Brightbill with Butler taking the consolation. In the 20 lap Sportsman feature event, Larry McVay of Flemington NJ returned to victory lane for the first time since July 25th, capturing his seventh win of the season. 1998 Rookie Champion Rich Scagliotta of Bound Brook NJ finished second in his #8. Keith Brightbill of Sinking Spring PA nipped Ron John Koczon by a wheel at the line to take third in the Tabloid Graphics #19. Koczon of New Egypt NJ brought the Agip Oil #RJ7 home fourth followed by ‘Jumpin’ Jack Swain of Tabernacle NJ fifth in his #42. Sportsman heats were won by Keith McIntyre, Dick Robbins and Scagliotta while Brightbill won the consolation. In the Mid-State Communications 5 lap Cash Dash, which was held for the Sportsman division this week, Keith McIntyre won in his own #9 pocketing $365 for his effort. In the fifteen lap Street Stock feature, Dan Weir of Vineland NJ won his second feature this year in his #90L. Jim Gerber of Shamong NJ was second in the Gerber Racing #34, followed by Mick Search of Allentown NJ in the #14. Al Cheney III and Kevin Bifulco rounded out the top five. A collection was taken by the drivers for the family of Donnie Lippencott, the crewman killed last week in a traffic accident in front of the speedway. Over $1900 was collected in addition to the money that was donated last week. Last Saturday, Street Stock driver Dan Weir, Sportsman driver Drew Grosso and Modified driver Rick Cozze donated their winnings to the family with Cozze adding an additional $100. Our thanks go out to these caring individuals for their generosity. Only two weeks are left in the 1998 season here at New Egypt. This Saturday, Sept. 19th, will be Fan-tastic Fan Appreciation night as well as local business recognition night. Many give-aways for fans young and old will be given out throughout the evening courtesy of many local businesses and race teams. The evening will feature Modifieds, Sportsman and Street Stocks. All of the action gets underway with warm-ups at 5:30 and the first heat at 6pm. Coming Sat. Sept. 26 will be the season finale with the final point races of the season being run in all three divisions, along with the URC sprint cars returning for the third time. 9/12/98 MODIFIED RESULTS 1st Heat: 1.Jones 2.Radd 3.Sena 4.Epright 5.Tanner Sr. 6.McClaren
