BRIGHTBILL UNSTOPPABLE AT NEW EGYPT - WINS 11th

New Egypt, NJ, September 19, 1998...... Kenny Brightbill of Sinking Spring, PA captured his eleventh win of the season, and his 6th of the last seven, at the New Egypt Speedway in the 30 lap Modified feature Saturday night. Brightbill also continued his late season dominance by posting his seventh victory in the last two weeks. Starting 16th, Brightbill carefully picked his way thru the field, entering the top five by lap 10. Five laps later he moved into second as the field was being shown the halfway sign, however, it took eight laps for Brightbill to work by a stubborn Carmine Infante.

Eddie Cranmer lead the 25 car field down to starter Frank Resta’s green flag with outside pole sitter Infante jumping into the lead. Infante lead Cranmer for the first seven laps before the first yellow was displayed for Gary Velenger, who had stopped in turn two. On the restart, Infante and Cranmer raced away followed by Tim Tanner Sr. and Johnny Leach. On lap 10, Brightbill entered the top 5 and quickly moved into second by lap 15. Brightbill closed in on Infante a couple of times in lapped traffic, but Infante looked like a seasoned veteran as he continually closed the door on the Tabloid Graphics #19.

On lap #22, the second caution of the event waved for a spinning Tom Hager. With open track ahead of them, Brightbill slid under Infante on the curved backstretch on lap #23, and raced away to record his 11th of the season. Brightbill took home the top prize of $2500 along with the $655 that he won in the Mid-State Communications Dash for Cash. Infante of Cream Ridge NJ brought the Red Valley Landscaping #14 home second followed by Tanner Sr. of Ivyland PA. Eddie Cranmer of New Egypt NJ turned his luck around as he captured fourth in his own #115. Fifth went to Steve Moss of Flemington in the Moss Landscaping #87. Rounding out the top ten were Billy Pauch, Brian Jones, Johnny Leach, Tim Tanner Jr. and Roger Laureno. The three heat winners were Tanner Sr., Infante, and Cranmer.

In the 20 lap Sportsman feature event, Dick Robbins of Toms River NJ visited victory lane for the first time this season. Larry Archer of East Windsor NJ finished second in the Edison Generator #747. Jack Swain of Tabernacle NJ picked up his second straight top five finishing third. Rick Grosso Jr. came back from an early race tangle to finish fourth followed by Rich Scagliotta of Bound Brook NJ fifth. Larry McVay of Flemington clinched the 1998 Sportsman Track Title with his seventh place finish coupled with Bob Worthington not qualifying for the second time in three weeks.Sportsman heats were won by Robbins, Mike David and Grosso Sr. while J.C. Mears won the consolation.

In the fifteen lap Street Stock feature, Jeff Carpenter of Howell NJ won his sixth feature this year in his #82 and clinched the Street Stock championship with one week to go. Ralph Garguilo looked to be a sure winner when his #08 jumped out of gear coming out of turn four with the white flag waving. Tom Holloway of Manahawkin NJ was second. Garguilo of Brick NJ held on for third followed by Mick Search of Allentown NJ in the #14. Kenny Guyer of Browns Mills rounded out the top five.

Next week is the1998 season finale here at New Egypt. This Saturday, Sept. 26th, will feature the URC Sprint Cars along with the final point races of the season for the Modifieds, Sportsman and Street Stocks. All of the action gets underway with warm-ups at 4:30 and the first heat at 5pm. 9/19/98
