SAMSULA, FLORIDA -- Top flight Modified driver Tim Arre of Toms River, NJ, driving his Shark Lounge Troyer 357 picked up "World Series" victory number two, but more importantly won the Richie Evans Memorial 100 Friday night in racing action on New Smyrna Speedway.

Frank Wainwright of Stanford, CT won his second SK Modified "World Series" race finishing 11th overall. A hot driving Wainwright drove his AJ Romono Wisk CO 355 to Victory Lane.

Arre moved quickly to the front with Rob Summers and Jr. Bertuccio of Centereach, N.Y. driving Gershaw Recycle Northfolk Sanitation Spafco 302 was following in lap five.

Really on the early move was Ed Flemke Jr. of Berlin, CT chasing down Summers for second in lap 24 and took that spot in lap 28. Flemke then set his sights on Arre for the lead.

Flemke took the lead in lap 30 followed by Arre and Summers. Bertuccio was fourth and Danny Lia fifth. Ted Christopher of Plainville, CT was sixth.

In lap 44, Flemke was still in charge followed by Lia and Summers. Bertuccio was fourth and Christopher fifth.

Top runners made a pit stop for tires in lap 50 for tires and other adjustments and this stop would alter the field for several laps.

In lap 61 Summers was out front with Flemke and Beers following. Lia was fourth and Bertuccio fifth.

Christopher pulled into the pits for his third stop in lap 65 while running fifth and Flemke was feeling some pressure from Arre, who had been making a strong charge back to the front.

In lap 80 it was Flemke still led followed by Arre and Bertuccio. A leading Flemke pitted in lap 87 and Arre was now in the lead with Bertuccio and Steve Whitt of Farmington, N.J. dropping in line behind him. Summers was now fourth and Tom Baldwin of East Patchoque, N.Y. fifth.

Following a lap 95 caution Arre opened an eight car lead and was then too much to handle.

The winning Arre took the checkered flag with Bertuccio and Summers behind him.

Rounding out the top five were Mike Ewainitsko of Babylon, N.Y. in fourth and Baldwin.

SUPER LATE MODELS

Junior Hanley of Campbellville, Ontario driving the Big Rigs Chevrolet won a "World Series 30 lap Super Late Model feature in "World Series" racing Friday night on New Smyrna Speedway.

Hanley put it all together in lap 27 taking the lead from Hantz on the outside groove to take his win. Hanley made Hantz a little loose with a nudge on the back straightaway earlier, but permitted him to right his car and continue.

Second place race finisher Scott Hantz led in lap one followed by Don Thompson of Cambridge, Ontario in his Cambridge Rigging Chevrolet and Louie Mechalides of Tyngsboro, MA.

James Powell III of Astor, FL put the pressure on Thompson making a slick pass and was now fourth. Powell's run didn't end well when he tried a run for third place and Mechalides didn't get up to speed on a lap 18 restart. Powell spun on the front straightaway as a result of the pass and was unable to continue with the damage to his car.

When the field went back to green it was Hantz, Mechalides and Hansen. Rounding out the top five were Thompson and Jack Landis of Edgerton, OH.

In lap 23, Hantz was in a real battle for the lead with Hanley. In third was Mechalides, who had Wayne Anderson of Wildwood, FL for close company and ready to move on him.

Hanley took the lead in lap 27 and he still had more left and took a lap 30 checkered flag. The second place runner was Hantz and third Mechalides. Anderson was fourth B. J. McCleod of Wauchula, FL fifth.

LATE MODELS

Jason Boyd of Orlando, FL won the Late Model 20 lap "World Series" feature Friday night and Jerry Symons of New Smyrna Beach, FL finished second setting the stage for a Speedweeks Championship title on Saturday night.

Boyd held the point all 20 circuits opening as much as a 10 car lead over the rest of the top five in a 25 car starting field.

The winning Boyd faced no real competition, but by the basis of Symons consistent top five finishes he is still in the hunt for a Speedweeks Championship.

Boyd crossed the finish line with Symons and Mike Murphy of Clermont, FL following. Jerry Artuso of Soo, Ontario was fourth and Kirk Hooker of Chatham, Ontario finished fifth.

MODIFIEDS

Jerry Symons of New Smyrna Beach, FL was the big winner Friday night on New Smyrna Speedway winning the 20 lap feature and claiming Speedweeks 37th Annual World Series of Asphalt Racing Championship.

Symons jumped to the point quickly and would hold the lead for all 20 circuits. Brad May of Orlando, FL was second and Jason Boyd of Orlando, FL followed in third.

In lap 10, Symons held the lead over May and Boyd and over a 20 car advantage on fourth place runner Matthew Wheeler of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Jerry Artuso of Soo, Ontario.

Symons was still strong in lap 15 with a seven car advantage over May and Boyd. Artuso was quickly closing in on Boyd.

Symons won the race. The winner was followed by May, Artuso and Boyd.
