Thomson takes fourth feature win of the year
SAUBLE BEACH, ONTARIO - DriveFit, Young Drivers of Canada Ford Taurus driver Dennis Thomson won his third straight feature race at Sauble Beach Speedway on Saturday night. "This one was good to win," Thomson said. "Our DriveFit, Young Drivers of Canada Taurus came in quickly, and that I think got us out front early - that was the difference. Kevin and Thane were right on my bumper for the whole distance." With the win, Thomson takes a commanding lead in the championship. "Right now it looks good," Thomson said. "But it is far from over. Already this season we have seen drivers have some bad nights - if I have one, it's a whole new championship."
Second in the feature - with a dramatic last lap pass in the feature - was Melitta Canada Monte Carlo driver Thane Woodside. Woodside lined up third for the feature, lost a position at the start, and then methodically worked his way back to the front, to finish second. With a strong second place, he kept the pressure on Kevin Crowhurst for second in the championship. Woodside also won the first heat race. "It was a great race for our team," Woodside said. "I didn't expect to be able to get Kevin at the end, but he pushed up coming off two and I was able to pass."
Third in the feature was the O'Conner Distribution Dodge of Kevin Crowhurst. "The O'Conner Dodge started out okay, but got tight towards the end," Crowhurst said. "Thane got by me at the end - I had nothing left to fight him with."
Fourth in the feature was the CARSTAR Monte Carlo of Russ Bond. Bond was back behind the wheel of the CARSTAR entry after missing the previous round due to an injury. Tim Norris brought his apprenticesearch.com Dodge home in fifth, just ahead of the International Truck and Engine Pontiac of Ken Nicholson. Seventh went to the Markham Driveline Monte Carlo of Mike Bell and rounding out the field were Josh Nicholson in the NU-GRO Dodge and Danielle Wilson in the Da-Light Monte Carlo.
Round 6 of the Ontario Pro Challenge Series is Fan Appreciation Night at Mosport Speedway on July 10.
