TINDAL WINS AT PIR by Jeff Adams

John Tindal of Fancy Farm, KY survived a fierce battle with Gary Keeling and won the $1,200 top prize in the UMP late model division on Saturday night at Paducah International Raceway. Tindal led the first 14 laps, until Keeling made his move on lap 15, driving by Tindal on the tacky PIR surface. Keeling and Tindal raced hard into turns 3 and 4, where a lapped car got sideways in front of the pair. Tindal and Keeling both had to check up, with contact being made between the 2 leaders. Tindal regained control of his car first, and was able to hold on for the win. In the UMP Modified division, Kevin Cole used the high line to drive past Kelly Canter on lap 5, and held on for the win. Ronnie Franklin led wire-to-wire in the Pro Stock division, despite constant pressure from Jimmy Burnham. Ralph Isom won the Street Stock feature, with Randy Owen glued to his back bumper throughout the event. John Blankenship drove past leader JW Moore on lap 3, and led the rest of the way in winning the Classic Coupe feature. This Saturday, June 5, the track introduces the new 2-person Cruiser division. The cars are unique due to the fact one person controls steering, while the other controls the gas pedal. The track has built several of the cars, and any fan can claim one of the cars for $500, and go racing the next week. In addition, advanced tickets are now on sale for the Hav-A-Tampa event on June 19. The race will be 75 laps, and will pay $10,000 to the winner of the feature event. The nations finest dirt late model drivers will be on hand that evening, with the race being one of 8 in a 2-week span throughout the Midwest. Tickets can be reserved by calling the track at (502) 898-7469, Sonja Ryan at (502) 898-5103, or PR Director Jeff Adams at (309) 347-6540. A limited number of reserved seats are available.
