St. Johns, PA . . . . . . . The fans filled the new grandstands at Pocono Mountain Speedway and were treated to brilliant sunshine and great racing on Sunday afternoon, April 30th. The Factory Stocks ran green to checker as Jim Ciampi of Exeter, PA held on to record his second feature win of the year. Paul Monkoski, tried to capture his first win of the year but settled for a hard fought second place finish. Bruce Long, of Hunlock Creek, worked hard for his third Street Stock feature win of the season. Bruce who started in the rear of the field even had the caution flag come out for him early in the race, quickly worked his way through the field and by Lap 4 of the 20 lap feature, Long took the lead and never looked back. Rich Spaide Jr and Donny Hartzell made it close to round out the top three in the Street Stock Feature. Late Model winner, Barry Gommer who started in the rear of the field and was involved in two separate incidents on Lap 1 and 8, still brought his CMC Engineering, Gail Clark Racing Engines #58 into the Fairway Chevrolet Victory Lane. Early in the race it was Todd Cooper, Doug Yanders and Dean Kline battling side-by-side pacing the field. Several incidents bunched the field close together that added to the excitement. By halfway the 18-year-old hot shoe, made his way to second and was following Cooper. With 2 to go Gommer made his move and Cooper held onto second place with Dean Kline on his bumper. Jack Cassidy, of Mountaintop, PA held off Shawn Gallucci for the Pro Stock Feature Win. Cassidy started on the pole and from the drop of the green flag he and Gallucci had the fans on their feet. David Whitenight was in the mix until he spun in turn three at the halfway point. From that point on the top two pulled away with third and fourth place finishers Blaine Barry and Bradley Brown trying to track them down. Lapped traffic was the only thing that held Cassidy up and gave Gallucci one more chance to go on the outside to try for his first win of the 2000 season. But Cassidy held his ground and Gallucci had to settle for his 2nd consecutive 2nd place finish. Eric Beers of Northampton, PA captured his second Modified Feature win of the season at the 1/3rd mile Pocono Mountain Speedway. Beers who started in the 10th position after finishing second in his heat race, slipped between Gary Wentz and C.J. Jones with two laps to go to hold onto the victory. Gary Wentz driving the #62 led from the green flag to lap 28 until Beers slipped through. For about 20 laps Wentz, Jones and Beers were in front, Jones and Beers swapped inside and outside positions as each were trying to find the groove to get in position to go for the lead. With two laps to go C.J. Jones had the inside position on Beers and was taking his shot at the lead when he and Wentz just barely touched and as they were collecting their cars, Beers took advantage of a hole that was open only for a millisecond to slip by. Don Wagner was the hard charger of the race by starting in the last row and finishing third behind Wentz and in front of C&C Ford driver C.J. Jones. See all the same divisions and great action next Sunday, May 7th at 2:00 P.M. Also up on the slate May 14th is the Race of Champions Modified 50 lap $2,000 to win Qualifier.
