Pocono Mountain Speedway Mod Checkered For Wagner

ST JOHNS, PA. Don Wagner led all laps, enroute to victory in the 30 lap modified feature at Pocono Mountain Speedway.

Wagner got the jump on the field from the pole, while Mike Adams followed him into 2nd from the inside of row two. Matt Hirshman held 3rd, followed by Cal Snyder and Chris Ammon.

While the top four spread out, there was some great racing further back in the pack. Ammon and Andy Szapacs battled for 5th, swapping the position a couple times during the early laps.

Further back, the trio of John Markovic, Russ Frantz, and Eric Beers began their charge to the front, from starting deep in the pack. By lap 10, they closed in on Ammon in a battle for the 5th spot. The top 4 of Wagner, Adams, Snyder, and Hirshman remained unchanged.

On lap 12, Eric Beers got a run on Frantz down the front straight to take over 7th, and five laps later, pulled the same move on Markovic for 6th. By the time they reached the lone caution of the race on lap 20, Eric Beers got around Ammon to crack the top 5.

Over the final third of the race, Eric Beers was the only driver to gain any spots. In the end, Wagner picked up his second win of the season, with Adams in 2nd. Eric Beers finished 3rd, picking up the Pocono Wireless hard charger bonus money. Snyder and Hirshman rounded out the top 5.

The American Race Truck Series was in town for a 50 lap regional event. The race was over quickly, with not cautions slow the pace. At the drop of the green, Chris Correll, Jeff Zoller, and Scott Riggleman claimed the top 3 spot.

At the 10 lap mark, Riggleman made the pass on Correll to take over 2nd. It took another 7 laps, but eventually Riggleman got around Zoller to take over the lead.

With no cautions to bring the pack together, Riggleman pulled away for an easy win. Rick Gonzalez slowly worked his way up through the field for 2nd, followed by Jeff Zoller. The early leader, Correl, held on to finish 4th, followed by local driver Sam Ryan in 5th.

There was a trilling end to the Pro Stock Mid Season Championship. Alan Decker and Joe Hoffman battled over the final laps for the win. As the pair went through 3 and 4 on the last lap, they caught up to lapped traffic. Decker chose the high side, while Hoffman went low. In a drag race to the line, Decker won by a nose, with Hoffman settling for 2nd.

In the other Mid Season Championship action, Jim Businski took the Street Stock feature, while Danny Cascioli claimed the Factory Stock win.
