Ryan Crane Looks Forward to Long-Distance Rattler
Sprint Races of Speedweeks Are Over and Crane is Ready to Go The Distance

PANAMA CITY, FL (March 1, 2005) -- Ryan Crane has been to the South Alabama Speedway once in his young life. The Florida driver adapted so well to the track that he was actually disappointed when he finished third in that race last year.

So when Crane returns to the track this coming weekend with his Super Late Model team for the prestigious Rattler, it would be an understatement to say that he is happy to be making the trip.

"I've been really waiting to go back to this track," said Crane. "We went out there at the end of last year for a 100-lap Super Late Model race and we did pretty well. We qualified sixth, but once the car came in it was very fast. We led about 40-50 laps before having a bad pit stop. We came back from that and were going for the lead in the last turn. I got together with Gary Bradberry a little bit. He won and a few guys caught up and I finished third."

That race might be the perfect tune-up for Crane to come in and put together a good run in the Rattler. The race has been held since 1974 and will attract some of the best short trackers in the Southeast. Crane is looking forward to the race and the fact that it is going to be a long one.

"I like longer races much better," said Crane, who most recently competed in a series of short sprint races at Florida Speedweeks. "It's a different deal. We'll make two pit stops and the set-up really matters. We didn't make any pit stops at Speedweeks. The races are over too quickly.

"We have been really fast at first in races this year, but with this race in mind we have been working on making the car really good on long runs. I think that a race like this with its longer distance will mean that we'll be better off."

The long-distance event also puts a premium on car preparation. A broken part, whether it is a 50-cent bolt or the engine, will end the day of even the fastest racecar.

"We are making sure that every detail is taken care of for this race," said Crane. "We need to make sure that we are well prepared and that the car will hold up. We'll have new brakes and new bearing in the car for this weekend."
