Short Track Notebook: Andy Kamrath stops Watson’s APC winning streak

The APC United Late Model Series reached the midpoint of the 2017 season with its second stop to Flamboro Speedway and the drivers didn’t disappoint the fans with the 100-lap feature for the Ontario-based late model touring series.

A total of 24 cars were on hand for the fifth race of the 10-race season for the late models Saturday night and for the first time all season there was a new winner.

Andy Kamrath held off Brandon Watson to score his first win of the season on Saturday after starting from the pole position after the redraw following qualifying.

A six-car accident on Lap 2 results in a 30-minute Red Flag as the car of Chris Mitchell had to be brought back into the track after riding the wall in Turn 3.

After the car was brought to the pits and the race restarted, Watson had the lead but Kamrath was able to make the pass on the next lap.

The race was slowed four times for caution with the third caution given to the field on Lap 78 after Watson and Shawn Chenoweth got together sending Chenoweth for a spin in Turn 1.

On the restart, Josh Stade went around in Turn 1 resulting in the fourth and final caution of the race.

On the restart, Watson tried the high and low grooves to find a way around Kamrath as they ran nose to tail the rest of the race.

Matt Pritiko came home third with Shae Gemmell and Jamie Cox rounding out the top five.

Gordon takes modified win at Peterborough Speedway

Mark Gordon took the lead at the drop of the green flag and held off John Baker Jr. to become the first repeat winner of the season for the modified division.

Gordon held a sizeable lead over Brad Stevenson and John Baker Jr. before Gordon and Stevenson got together racing the lead. Stevenson – using Peterborough Speedway’s ‘Gentleman’s Rule’ – took responsibility for the incident, giving the lead back to Gordon who led the rest of the way.

Stu Robinson Jr., Connor James, and Linc Brown completed the top five.

Szoke and Trombino dominant Pros at Atlantic Motorsport Park

Jordan Szoke and Frank Trombino were the Pro winners during Saturday’s Mopar CSBK Canadian Superbike Championship Round 4 presented by Honda Canada at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia.

The first attempt to start the 22-lap Superbike Feature race was red-flagged and stopped after Trombino experienced a major opening-lap crash while in the lead pack on the Roller Coaster back straight.

The much-liked 44-year-old received medical attention at the track and was taken by ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On the restart, Szoke punched his Mopar Express Lane/Motovan BMW S1000RR to the front of the pack and steadily extended his lead, eventually crossing the line 11.09 seconds ahead of runner-up Kenny Riedmann.

In the Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike race, held earlier Saturday afternoon, Trombino took a commanding victory aboard his ProStar Honda CBR600RR. The series veteran known as "The Warlord" took the checkered flag 12.79 seconds ahead of runner-up Tomas Casas.
