DIRT Southeast Series Debut At Hagerstown & Big Diamond Just Two Weeks Away

Langhorne, PA - March 14 , 2004..... The dawn of a new era in modified racing will occur in just two short weeks, when the opening races of the new DIRT Motorsports Southeast Series takes place, with a 100 lap Super DIRT Series Qualifier at Hagerstown (MD) Speedway on Saturday night, March 27th, followed by a 25 lap event the next afternoon at Minersville, PA's Big Diamond Speedway. These races are the first of the new fifteen race series formed by DIRT Motorsports and series organizer Bob Miller and the series will carry COMDIAL Telephone Communications as the sponsor. This new series, aimed at bringing the PA, NJ, and DE big block modifieds together to compete with the New York modifieds, carries a $12,500 point fund to awarded after the last event of the season at the Bridgeport Speedway in New Jersey in November.

Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD, will serve as the opener for both the new COMDIAL DIRT Southeast Series and the 2004 edition of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series, with all touring regulars expected to be in attendance for competition on the ½ mile clay raceway. Time trials and qualifying heat races will set the field for the 100 lap main event, with the winner getting a guaranteed starting spot in the annual autumn classic, the Advance Auto Parts 200, held at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, NY in October. Racing action at Hagerstown begins at 5:30PM .

Following Hagerstown's action, all attention will turn to the Big Diamond 3/8th mile dirt oval in Minersville, PA. Heats and consolation races will be run to set the feature field for the 25 lap main event to be contested that afternoon. Many of the New York contingent are expected to be in competition that day with the PA, NJ and DE regulars, stopping on their way from Hagerstown the night before, looking to take home the $2500 first prize money that will be on the line for the winner. The first race is slated for 2PM, with pit gates opening at 10:30AM. All drivers will draw for starting position in the heats, with the top 12 from the heats drawing for position in the 25-lap feature.

The fifteen race DIRT Southeast Series will see action on six different Mid-Atlantic region speedways, with Grandview (PA) Speedway, Delaware International Speedway, New Egypt (NJ) Speedway, and Bridgeport (NJ) Speedway joining the aforementioned Big Diamond and Hagerstown Speedways for the inaugural season of the series, which boasts over $300,000 in total payoff, along with a $12,500 point fund. Home track points will be awarded to the DIRT Southeast drivers, giving them a chance to compete for the Mr. DIRT Championship point title. Six of the fifteen races on the schedule are 100 lap Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series events, while the rest of the Southeast Series will be contested in 25 or 40-lap main events.

The complete COMDIAL DIRT Southeast Series will be run under DIRT rules, with Hoosier DIRT tires mandatory. All drivers contesting for the new Southeast DIRT Series Championship must have DIRT licenses, which must be purchased BEFORE July 31st, 2004 to be eligible for any point money. The 25 and 40 lap events will feature double file restarts until two to go, giving the fans a chance to see their favorite drivers have a chance for the win right to the end of the race.

Billy Pauch, Kenny & Keith Brightbill, Jimmy Horton, Doug Hoffman, Keith Hoffman, Duane Howard, Frank Cozze, Jeff Strunk, Craig Von Dohren, and Tim Fuller are just some of the drivers that have indicated interest in running this exciting new series for the big block modifieds.
