Texana Raceway Park race fans were treated to a record number of racecars last Saturday night. Over 70 entries in nine different classes provided the excitement that makes dirt track auto racing one of the country's most popular spectator sports.

In the highly competitive Dwarf Car feature event, Frank Furia moved from his mid-pack starting spot to grab the checkered flag for the third race in a row. On his way to the front, Furia drove around a multi-car accident that saw points leader Mike Christians flip four times before coming to rest on his roof. None of the drivers involved were injured, but there will be some time and money spent repairing the car damage.

Other drivers who were working on winning streaks were part of the "Good News - Bad News". In the Southern Sport Mods division it was "Good News" for Shiner's Vince Louden, as he kept his record perfect by winning his sixth feature in a row. In the Super Stock division it was "Bad News" for Victoria's Ken Densman as a mid-race crash ended his hopes for a sixth victory.

Highlight of the evening was the 40 lap, $1,500. to win feature event for the new IMCA Mods. A field of fourteen cars took the green and ran wheel-to-wheel for the full event. With two laps remaining, Corpus Christi's Steve Whittiker moved around Katy's Kalif Sellier to collect the big check.

The IMCA Mods, along with Stock Cars and Dwarf Cars, will return to Texana Raceway Park on July 2nd to compete for a $2,500 prize. The 50 lap IMCA Mods feature event will be part of a two-day event that will include added laps and over $14,000 in prize money to be divided among the competitors in all the classes. In addition to the racing program, "Reptoid" the monster truck will provide fans with a "ground pounding" exhibition.
