Pendleton, IN (August 5, 2002) - The 14th stop on the 2002 ASA Racing Series schedule occurs at Toledo Speedway on Saturday and Sunday, August 10-11, with the Metro Toledo-Northwest Ohio Ford Dealers 300 presented by Jani-King and Sterling. This marks ASA& 8217;s 16th visit to Ohio's premier oval and the 47th ASA Racing Series National Event in the Buckeye State.
In 2001 at Toledo, Johnny Sauter continued his rookie assault on ASA, winning his fourth consecutive race. Sauter took the top honors in the Glass City 300 and for the second straight year, a Sauter was victorious at Toledo Speedway. Johnny's older brother, Tim, the 1999 ASA National Champion, drove the A.P. Performance entry into the winner's circle in 2000 at the .5-mile oval.
Johnny Sauter, driving the A.P. Plasman Group car, continued to shatter the ASA record book, becoming the first rookie competitor to win five races in a single season. With capturing his fourth ASA victory in a row, Sauter joined Butch Miller (1986) and Bob Senneker (1991) as the only drivers to produce four consecutive victories in ASA.
In ASA's 15 previous events at Toledo Speedway, 11 different winners have emerged. Scott Hansen tops the victory charts with three with Johnny Benson Jr. and Dick Trickle rolling into the winner's circle on two occasions. Single-event winners include Glenn Allen Jr., Mike Eddy, Butch Miller, Mike Miller, Johnny Sauter, Tim Sauter, Bob Senneker and Randy Sweet.
