LAGASSE AND MOODY ATOP TOP GUN STANDINGS

ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA - With round one of the Top Gun Challenge in the books, Late Model pilot Scotty Lagasse Jr. and Hobby Stock division driver Randy Moody have driven their way to the top of their respective tiers in the current TGC standings. The Top Gun Challenge is a twenty-four event challenge series designed to allow the drivers from each of their respective racing divisions to compete against drivers in all the other divisions for points based on their personal performances in their respective events. Drivers receive bonus points for improving their finishing position from their original starting spots (maximum of 5), for top qualifying efforts and for wins, top fives and top tens. Points are then weighted by the number of entries in that division compared to an average car count over the past several weeks. For the purposes of this competition, the regular local divisions have been separated into two tiers. Tier One is made up of Late Model, Snap-On Sportsman and Rick's Muffler Modified divisions while Tier Two is comprised of the Thunder Truck, Mini and Hobby Stock divisions. Drivers are competing for cash awards in the amount of $1,500, $750 and $250 for the top three drivers in Tier One and for $900, $450 and $150 in Tier Two. In addition, the two highest finishing drivers in each tier will, on Nov. 19, climb into the cockpits of two AT-6 "Texans" courtesy of North American Top Gun, Inc. of St. Augustine along with an instructor pilot in the rear seat to engage in a WW II style dogfight in the skies over St. Augustine. The winner of the aerial dogfight will then be crowned the 1999 St. Augustine Speedway Top Gun Champion at the annual Awards Banquet that same evening.
