Tracy Gordon joins forces with BG Motorsports

BG Motorsports formed an agreement with Busch Grand National North driver Tracy Gordon to race full-time in the 2003 ASA Racing Series. Driving the number 45 Red Line Oil, Fans Motorsports Pontiac, Gordon will challenge for the $50,000 to-win Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year Award beginning with the season-opening event at USA International Speedway on Saturday, March 22.

BG Motorsports will carry the Red Line Oil on the ASA machines throughout the 2003 ASA season. In the world of motorsports, the Red Line Oil logo is everywhere. It's on Winston Cup stock cars, drag racing Pro Stocks, SCCA Trans-Am cars and CART Champ Cars. The Red Line sticker is on desert race trucks, unlimited air racers, motocross bikes, competition snowmobiles and offshore race boats.

"I'm hoping we can secure some sponsorship, allowing our team to operate at a very competitive level in 2003," said Tracy Gordon. "After racing in two events last season, I know what to expect this season. Our goals are aimed at capturing the Rookie of the Year honors and finishing top five in the standings."

Tom Granelli, Vice President of BG Motorsports, is excited about returning to ASA full-time after a completing on a partial basis in 2002.

"We missed competing full-time in ASA last season. The racing, attitude of the officials towards the teams and competitors, and the family atmosphere are at a very high level. BG Motorsports looks forward to being in the series for a long time to come," added Granelli.

"I feel BG Motorsports has a driver capable of winning a championship in ASA in the next two years. Tracy is a fierce competitor, with a solid racing background. We expect him to win in 2003. Hopefully, we as owners can put a solid program under him to make that happen. Our goals in 2003 are capturing the Pat Schauer Rookie of the Year award, win a race, and finish in the top five in points," added Granelli.

Gordon made his ASA debut at Berlin Raceway in July of 2002, finishing in the 16th-position after starting the Tires.com 300 Presented by BFGoodrich Tires on the outside of the eighth row. Gordon, 37, additionally competed in the 2002 ASA season finale at Winchester Speedway, recording his career-best finish of 13th.

[012103-Gordon_b.jpg] In 1997, making a big step in his racing career, Gordon was hired as the driver for Merit Motorsports in the Busch Grand National North Division. He grabbed rookie of the year honors, establishing freshman records for most rookie of the race awards and finishing 14th in driver standings.

The following season, racing as driver/owner, was a stellar sophomore season on the Busch North circuit. Gordon scored two victories and finished seventh in the 1998 standings. He also received the honor of Most Improved Driver.

In 1999, Gordon obtained significant financial backing from TicTac Breath Mints. This sponsorship guided the Strong (ME) competitor to three victories and finishing runner-up in the standings. The next year he tallied five victories and five poles and grabbed third place in final points.

Following a strong start to the 2001 Busch North season with a dominating win at Lee USA Speedway, Gordon struggled, but still managed a seventh-place finishing position in the series points. In 2002, Gordon rebounded, finishing fifth in the standings and scoring a victory at New Hampshire International Speedway.

Bryant-Granelli (BG) Motorsports formed in November 1995, then raced on the Goody's Dash circuit from 1996-2000. In 2000, BG Motorsports made a move to ASA. The team competed in eight races with driver Ricky Bryant and primary backing from Van Camps Beans. In the ASA debut, the team raced at Hawkeye Downs Speedway, placing 20th in the afternoon. Later that evening, they placed second in a Goody's Dash race. During the 2000 campaign, BG Motorsports made 18 starts in the Goody's Dash circuit and additionally made eight starts in ASA. The 2001 season saw full-time participation with ASA with Bryant and primary sponsor Washington Apples. Last year BG Motorsports raced part-time in both ASA and Goody's Dash.

Gordon and the remainder of the ASA Racing Series competitors begin their season on March 22 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland (FL).
