15-Year-Old Goes Back to Familiar Track with Counter Set to Zero

MOORESVILLE, NC (September 21, 2005) -- It hasn't taken long for Joey Logano to make a splash in the USAR Pro Cup Series. The 15-year-old won in only his second career start and has finished five of his nine races to date in the top five. Those results have come in a situation that has been less than ideal. Logano had not been to most of the tracks he raced at and he had to miss the early part of the regular season while he waited for his 15th birthday [Series officials would not allow a 14-year-old driver to compete].

This time around, Pro Cup drivers are getting ready to start the five-race Championship Series post-season at the same track where Logano made his debut, Jennerstown Speedway, so look out.

"I think it gives us an advantage," said Logano. "A lot of the tracks that we've been to, it's been the first time we've raced there. I think that when you race at a track, you learn a lot. Last time we were there, we were pretty quick, but a few things that weren't supposed to happen, happened. Hopefully this time we'll be just as good, but have a better finish."

Ironically, even though Logano has raced at Jennerstown, he has not been allowed to test there in preparation for this weekend's event.

"I'm not old enough, actually," explained Logano with a smile. "You need to be 16 to test there. It's because of insurance. USAR has their insurance for the race events and the tracks have their own deals. We got messed up with that deal. I would have liked to have tested, but we'll be alright."

The points counter also resets to zero at this point in the season. Logano was not able to run a full season of Pro Cup racing, but he is able to take part in the entire post-season.

"It's a disadvantage having missed a lot of races, but I think we can make up a lot of it and have some good top-five runs. I think we'll have something for these races. Rookie of the Year would be really nice. We're hoping to have good, clean races and not have any problems."

Another plus for Logano at Jennerstown will be the fact that he has raced against nearly all of the 60 drivers racing to earn a spot in the 36-car Jennerstown field. Logano has competed in both the Northern and Southern division of Pro Cup this year.

"It really helps to know who you are racing against," said Logano. "There are a lot of guys in the series that you can run with door-to-door for several laps. There are a few that you can't. Knowing all of that helps you a lot."

The Charlie Campbell Memorial BFGoodrich Tires 250 is set for this Saturday night at Jennerstown Speedway (PA). The race is scheduled to go green at 7pm. The race will be broadcast on SPEED Channel on October 1st at 10pm EST.
