Greg Van Alst Has High Hopes For Kil-Kare

Anderson, Indiana - - For United Speed Alliance Racing rookie Greg Van Alst, Friday's nights USAR event from Kil-Kare Speedway could possibly be one of the biggest races of his young career.

For the first time ever, the former ARCA RE/MAX Series driver will carry an in-car camera for the series. Obviously, when asked to carry the camera aboard his No. 35 machine, Van Alst went ballistic. "I was so honored that I was asked to carry a camera on Friday night. I hope we are able to have a career best day and make USAR proud."

Despite having an in-car camera, the Van Alst Motorsports team will head into the Xenia, Ohio based track without the support of a sponsor. "We've been racing all season with little or no help at all," continued Van Alst, a former Sunoco Super Series driver. "While racing on the track, we've been racing to find a sponsor to keep this team funded. We had a deal at the start of the season we thought was going to take us to the championship, unfortunately obstacles within the organization halted the deal and left Van Alst Motorsports without funding."

"We'll be looking for a sponsor up until race time if we have to," said Van Alst who currently sits 19th in the 2004 USAR Northern Division standings. "We are not looking for a lot, anything to put two organizations together for a great event," explained the former late model driver.

The Anderson, Indiana native heads into Kil-Kare this weekend looking for another competitive weekend of racing. Last weekend at Lake Erie, he started his GregVanAlst.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo 18th to finish the race 17th, a career best. Greg, the owner of Van Alst Motorsports would like to blast past that 17th place finish and score his first top-ten of his USAR career.

"A top-ten finish would feel like a victory for us," the driver of car 35 remarked.

If that top-ten should prevail, it will be another reason for his spirited crew to celebrate. On Thursday, July 1st, Greg will turn 23. "If we can grab that top-ten or sneak in a top-five, it would be my best birthday present yet," he exclaimed.

The USAR Hooter Pro Cup 250 is set for this Friday night from Kil-Kare Speedway. Practice, and qualifying will take place on July 3rd with the series set to take the green flag that night. The race will be broadcasted on the Speed channel Thursday, July 8th at 8:00pm EST.
