USAR: Myrtle Beach CS: Eric Corbett race notes

HAGERSTOWN, MD.  October 22, 2002.  Eric Corbett, USAR Hooters ProCup driver of the Larry and Son's #75 Ford Taurus brought home another top five finish Saturday evening at the Myrtle Beach Speedway.

Corbett, of Hagerstown, MD although only running a limited schedule this year due to sponsorship limitations has consistently been in the top five.  Saturday evening, during the Mark Brooks Memorial Lucas Oil 250, was no exception even though it was the first time the #75 team had the opportunity to run at the Myrtle Beach Speedway.

"The car was much better in qualifying than I had expected.  We had worked on setting the car up for the race and didn't work on qualifying time all day long.  I was very pleased," said Corbett.  "The car worked very well.  I am very proud of my crew during the pit stop.  We got in and out.  My crew is really jelling.  They kept us in the game the whole day.  Spotting is what really kept us alive during that race.  My spotter kept me out of at least four or five accidents.  My spotter was as big a part of us finishing 5th as me being behind the wheel."

"All I heard going in there was how hard it was to get around this track.  I actually thought it was the neatest track we've raced on all year except IRP. That type of surface works well with my driving style.  I didn't have to use up my car as much," said the young Corbett. 

"We are so excited to be involved with the Hooters Series and all the corporate sponsors that they pull into it. This series is so much different from what we came from.  It is great to be involved with such professional officials.  Don't get me wrong, Corbett said, with a smile, we haven't always been on the positive end of the officials, but we knew that what they handed down to me would be consistent with the next guy in the same situation."

Corbett's fifth-place finish earned him the Miller Lite Rookie of the Race honors.  This is the second time the young driver has received such honors this year. 

This finish has advanced Corbett to 37th position in the Championship points standings.

Corbett and his crew are anxious to race at the Peach State Speedway in the running of the Dan Duncan Memorial Hooters ProCup 250 on November 2nd.
