Hooters Pro Cup Series heading back to Bristol Motor Speedway through 2007

Longs, SC-Shane Huffman has one. And so does Clay Rogers. Now, the rest of the Hooters Pro Cup drivers will have a chance to get one-or two-of the most coveted pieces of hardware in short-track racing: a winner's trophy from Bristol Motor Speedway.

Today, USAR and Bristol Motor Speedway officials announced the Food City 150 would continue to be apart of the August race week at the World's Fastest Half-Mile through 2007.

"When we first paired up the Hooters Pro Cup Series with the Craftsman Truck Series as part of our August race week, a lot of people thought it might be an experiment," said Wayne Estes, Bristol Motor Speedway vice president. "The event has turned out to be such a success that it's probably going to be on our calendar for years to come."

In the inaugural Food City 150, run in conjunction with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series O'Reilly 200, Shane Huffman went from worst to first to take the checkered in 2004. This year, Clay Rogers recovered from a spin on the fifth lap to take the Food City 150 in the second Pro Cup race at the concrete behemoth.

"Winning at Bristol was absolutely a dream come true," said Rogers. "I grew up watching them race at Bristol, and I always dreamed about racing there. Now, I've won there, and that's a pretty special memory to have."

The Food City 150/O'Reilly 200 doubleheader is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006.

"To be able to showcase some of the best short-track drivers in the country at a venue like Bristol Motor Speedway is an immense privilege for our series," said Tony Cox, Hooters Pro Cup series director. "We wouldn't be able to do this without the help of our partners at Naturally Fresh or the friendships we've forged with Food City, the Bristol Motor Speedway staff and Craftsman Truck Series officials. We hope that we can enhance those relationships over the next few years and put on a great show for the race fans."
