DRT Enterprises - Over 25 Years of Racing Success

Today DRT Enterprises is one of the most widely recognized racing organizations in the entire Northeast. They have competed in a number of National Touring Series over the last 25 years, and in 2005 will bring their team back full time into the USAR Hooter's ProCup Series.

Their climb through the ranks is an amazing story. The team has seen changes within itself over the years, but through it all one man has been a mainstay in the team's rise to the top.

Tim Bainey Sr. is one of the most dedicated, experienced, and professional team owners you will find in racing today. His personality, hard work ethic, and winning attitude has resulted in the strong foundation upon which his DRT Enterprises Racing Team continues to build.

Tim Sr. started Bainey Racing in 1978. He developed that same team into what is now DRT Enterprises. His story is one of the best you will find. Starting out with very little back in his days of Hobby Stock Racing at the local Saturday night dirt tracks, he has led his team all the way to its current position - being recognized among the most elite racing organizations in the Northeastern United States.

His success has been no accident. It is a great story of a man that has taken true hearted values, a strong appreciation for his family, and an unwavering belief in following his instinct - and has built his organization around that. His personality brings out the best in those around him, and for that reason his successes continue to grow.

Tim was offered a full scholarship to Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, after placing 2nd in the 1976 Pennsylvania Wrestling State Championships. It was one of many offers he had from across the country, but the idea of being away from home and leaving his family behind was not something he was ready to do. After taking a look at the options, he gracefully declined and stayed home to work.

He spent a few years working on a drill rig, one of the tougher jobs you will ever find. Starting out at 5am and ending at 5pm, whether it was a hot and humid 100 degree day in the middle of summer or a frigid sub-zero degree day in the middle of a Northeastern Winter, he did what he had to do to support his family.

He moved on from the drill rig job to drive for an over-the-road trucking company for a year or two. Then in 1988, with just one truck Tim Sr. started a trucking and transport company of his own, T.L. Bainey Inc. Over the last 17 years he has evolved it into one of the most successful companies of its kind in Central Pennsylvania.

Tim began his ARCA Career as he entered a race in 1989 for legendary NASCAR driver James Hylton. Tim would field his own cars through DRT Enterprises to compete in the ARCA Bondo / Mar-Hyde Series from 1996-1999.

In 1998 Tim competed in a few ARCA Events for Jim and Judie Motorsports based in Charlotte, NC. Filling in for Winston Cup driver Dan Pardus. Then in 2000 Tim Sr. was the driver for Watson-Green Motorsports, co-owned by Dennis Green former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.

Tim has been to Daytona International Raceway, Lowe's Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Pocono International Raceway, and Michigan International Speedway, as well as numerous short tracks across the country. His best finishes - Speedway 11th (Pocono) - Short Track 9th (Salem, IN)

Tim is well known throughout his hometown for his fund-raising work with many notable charities and organizations such as The Children's Miracle Network, the Big Brothers / Big Sisters Program, and the One Less Tear Project. His team has appeared at a number of different fund-raising events over the past few seasons in support of these great organizations.

Prior to entering the ARCA Bondo / Mar-Hyde Series, Tim competed in the Asphalt Late Model divisions throughout western PA on a regional level for a few years at Clearfield Mountain Speedway, Motordrome Speedway, and Jennerstown Speedway. Tim has garnered a number of victories throughout the northeast in his short track career. He does have three track championships to his credit. However, that number has been limited due to the fact that Tim has never been satisfied to stay at the same level. He is always pursing that next level, and that makes itself clear when you look over his resume.

Tim Sr's guidance behind DRT Enterprises continues to push the organization forward. He works closely with his 3 sons, for which DRT Enterprises is named (Dan, Randy, Tim), guiding them as they start to handle much of the day-to-day operations of the team.

Tim Sr.'s approach has proven successful, and things are looking better than ever as the team heads into the 2005 season. His DRT Enterprises Team will field a fleet of #15 Greased Lightning Fords for his son Tim Jr. The Team will be headed by his son Dan at the Crew Chief Position, and to top it off his youngest son Randy - will start his first year as the team's manager of operations. Over half of the team members on the 2005 roster share the "Bainey" name... something that Tim Sr. is proud to say.

The team continues to expand, and when you have a solid foundation it makes things a little easier. "Dad is just great with everyone," said his youngest son Randy. "If you're going to be a part of this team - you're going to be a part of our family. That's how it has always been, and to the guys on our crew that relationship means a lot."

"We wouldn't be where we are at without Dad doing all that he does," his son Dan quoted. "We are really fortunate to have such a great relationship within our family and our team. That relationship is all because of the way Mom and Dad have brought us up and built this team."

"They started out with nothing," said Tim Jr. "There is no education at any university or school out there - that could ever compare to learning what we have through seeing first-hand how hard they have worked, how committed Dad was, and how driven he had to be to make it to where he is at today."

"We have enjoyed a lot of success with DRT Enterprises. My brothers and I have been taking a bigger role in things the last few years, but Dad still keeps a good eye on things - and when it gets really important - we always talk to dad about it," Tim Jr. continued.

Dan went on to sum things up from the team's perspective. "DRT Enterprises has come a long way, but like Dad has always told us - It's a long way to the top... if you want to Rock n' Roll. And anyone who has been around us can tell you - that's exactly the way Dad has taught us to do it!"

So there you have it, the story behind the story of the DRT Enterprises Team... the First 25 Years. We thank you all for your support - and look forward many more years of racing together!
