Ross wins at Winchester Speedway.

Winchester, IN (May 5, 2002)-- Although he is registered as a Miller Lite Rookie of the Year candidate in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series, Brian Ross used his experience to win the Naturally Fresh Dressings 250 for his second consecutive Northern Division triumph Sunday afternoon at Winchester Speedway. Ross edged Jeff Agnew for the win; as the pair were the only drivers to finish on the lead lap.

"We had a great car today," said Ross."I think we were able to use our experience at this track to our advantage in getting the car ready. Of course, at Winchester you have to stay out of trouble and we were able to do that today."

Forrest Urban finished third for his third consecutive top-10 finish of the young season and veteran Glenn Gault finished fourth to record his first top-five finish of the season. Tim Bainey, Jr, finished fifth, collecting his first career top-five finish in the Series.

Ross qualified sixth and quickly moved into the top five and eventually passed Mardy Lindley for the lead on lap 56, remaining out front until lap 163 when Lindley was able to move into the top spot. He regained the lead and stayed there until he pitted for fuel on lap 166. Urban then claimed the lead until he was forced to pit on lap 175. Agnew moved up front on lap 176 and set the pace until Ross regained the lead for the final time on lap 214.

The race was slowed six times by caution with the first five yellow flags being given to the field in the first 60 laps. The"World's Fastest ½-mile Speedway" also proved to be a challenge for several drivers as nine cars were involved in an accident on lap 37 as a pack of cars were exiting turn two.

Agnew, John Gaunt, Charlie Ford, Jay Fogleman, Kyle Shoemaker, Richard Hampton, Myron Haydt, Justin Alsip, and Jeff Dunmyer all received damage in the accident which brought the field to a stop during a seven minute red flag to clear the backstretch.

"Lapped cars just didn't give any room and it bunched everyone up out of two," said Alsip. Alsip, Gaunt, Ford, Dunmyer and Haydt were forced to call in a day early after the accident.

Phillip Rondeau finished sixth and veteran Lonnie Rush was seventh. Gary Bedell, Shoemaker and Jimmy Burns completed the top-10.

Lindley won his third consecutive Sunoco Pole Award while Agnew rebounded from having to start next to last to win the W.J. Plemons Investments Hard Charger Award.

Ross won the Lucas Oil Products Halfway Leader of the Race, Miller Lite Rookie of the Race and Southern Pride Lap Leader honors during his winning run.

Ross' team won the CV Products Engine Builder of the Race Award for Ultra Tech.

The USAR Hooters ProCup Series Northern Division will return to the Hoosier state for action in two weeks at Salem Speedway. Salem is configured much like Winchester, which makes Ross the early favorite.

"We are just happy to get the win here at Winchester," Ross said."We will get ready and go do the best we can. There are a lot of great drivers in this Series and we just have to go out and do our best every time because I know that is what they are going to do. We have the points lead now but it is early in the season."
