RUTER, DOLPHIN, ANDERSON, MADSON, YOHN PICK UP WINS AT PRITCHARD FAMILY AUTO STORES HANCOCK COUNTY SPEEDWAY

BRITT, Iowa (May 6, 2005) -- Beautiful weather for early May greeted fans and drivers at the Pritchard Auto Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa, for Hanson Construction Kids' Night. All children in attendance was treated to rides, candy and a nickel toss on this Friday night. A very good crowd was on hand to witness some great racing action in the USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series which featured a field of 20 more cars than the previous week.

The USRA Hobby Stocks were the first to take to the track and Calvin Lange looked like he would pick up his second straight win, but local star John Madson pulled some tricks out of his hat and moved around Lange with two laps to go to grab his first win of the season.

A late caution bunched the field and Madson came to a stop in turn 4 as a oil leak caused fire to spew from under the hood of his car. Fire crews put out the fire and Madson resumed racing.

Rounding out the top 5 finishers were Lange, Gary Lalor Jr., Randy Hadacek and Chad Lundy.

Picking up heat race wins were Shane Barnett, J.J. Wise and Lalor.

Next up was the USRA B-Modifieds and Jamie Anderson continued his dominance of the class by passing Jarrod Baumeister with six laps to go. Anderson cruised on to victory.

Heat races were won by Anderson and Jeramie Faber.

"This was one of the nicest Britt racetracks I have been on in three years," Anderson said in victory lane.

In the Hornet class, Alex Yohn took his four-cylinder to victory lane with Greg Birkhofer, Chad Ritter, Robert Blake and Matt Baker rounding out the top-5 finishers.

Next week, the Hornets will be split into a Junior and Senior classes, with any turbo-charged cars racing in a class with each other. Depending on the number of cars, they still may race together but each will have a winner.

Next to take to the track was the USRA Stock Car class. Veteran pilot Larry Portis jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and looked as if would pick up the win, but Portis had some heavy heat being put on by Kevin Hoeft, Jeff Dolphin and Randy Brands.

Portis had gremlins bite him with five laps to go when the drive shaft flew out of his car in turn 3, ending his evening.

Portis' misfortune gave the top spot to Hoeft, who led Dolphin and Brands to the restart. Brands made the high side work to his advantage, but got a little high off of turn 2 and drifted to sixth. In the meantime, Dolphin set up Hoeft to make his move and took the lead going into turn 1. From there, Dolphin cruised on to victory -- his first of the season.

Rounding out the top-5 were Hoeft, Cory Oftedahl, Brands and Craig Berhow.

The final race of the night was the USRA Modified main event. Ed Green and Jimmy Davis took the front row and these two drivers got together early, giving Green a flat tire and ending his evening.

Denny Anderson jumped into the lead with some hard chargers following him, including Dean Mahlstedt, who had worked his way to second, with Ryan Ruter, Jeremy Mills, Brad Bakken, Jimmy Davis, Mike Hejna and Al Hejna all battling for position.

Contact between Anderson and Mahlstedt started a chain-reaction accident that ended the evening for Mahlstedt, Davis and both of the Hejna brothers and left a three-car battle between Ruter, Mills and Bakken.

Ruter led the rest of the race, but his win didn't come easy as Mills and Bakken raced side by side for several laps before Bakken took the runner-up spot with Mills still trying for the win. Bakken got his nose beside Ruter at the line, but had to settle for second.

Racing action will continue next Friday night, May 13, at the Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway. Hot laps get underway at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.
