USRA: Scotland County results 2005-04-30

BURGTORF, GREINER, LANTZ, WIBBELL, ST. CLAIR, SCHULTE OPEN BENTZ GM COUNTRY SCOTLAND COUNTY SPEEDWAY WITH WINS

MEMPHIS, Mo. (April 30, 2005) -- The Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway finally got the 2005 racing season started after Mother Nature washed out last weekend's O'Reilly USMTS doubleheader. Picking up wins in the USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series features were Mark Burgtorf in the USRA Modifieds, Matt Greiner in the USRA Stock Cars, Wyatt Lantz in the USRA B-Modifieds and Chris Wibbell in the USRA Hobby Stocks. Also claiming victories in their respective divisions were Michael St. Clair in the Cruisers and Dennis Schulte in the Hornets.

The first feature of the night was the USRA B-Modifieds, with Kelly O'Haver and Wyatt Lantz leading the field to the green flag. Lantz would jump into the lead on the start and then pulled away in the caution-free race to pick up the win. Chris Larson was a distant second, Ron York came home third, Tony Dunker was fourth, with Jeff Waterman rounding out the top 5. Heat Race wins went to Jack Evans Jr. and Larson.

Next up was the USRA Stock Car feature. Matt Greiner and Troy Alexander led the field to the drop of the green flag, with Greiner taking the lead on lap 1. Greiner then held the top spot until lap 13, when Mike Robinson went by on the bottom for the lead. Greiner would come back on the bottom to lead lap 14. Greiner and Robinson would come of turn 4 on the final lap side by side, with Greiner edging Robinson at the line by inches to claim the win. Jason Cook crossed the line in third, Ryan Cook was fourth, with Alexander coming home in fifth. Robinson and Ryan Cook each picked up heat race wins.

The USRA Modified feature was third, with Michael Long and Mike Bennett on the front row. Long took advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1. Long would hold the top spot until lap 8, when Tony Fraise slipped by on the bottom of the speedway for the lead. Mark Burgtorf would work his way towards the front on lap 14, with Fraise coming back on the bottom to get the lead back on lap 15. Burgtorf then worked past the top side of Fraise on lap 16 to get the lead back and then held off Long and Fraise on the final two laps for the win. Bennett came home in fourth, with Mark Van Winkle coming from 10th to round out the top 5. Heat race winners were Long and Burgtorf.

Brandon Savage and Jim Oliver led the field of Hornets to the drop of the green flag. But it was fifth-place starter Dennis Schulte grabbing the lead on lap 1. Dennis would lead all 10 laps to pick up the win. Savage edged Tyler Schulte for second, Oliver was fourth, with Brent Forest coming home in fifth. Dennis Schulte and Savage claimed the heat race wins.

Up next was the Cruiser feature, with Jeremy Buss and Michael St. Clair on the front row. Craig Spilker would slip by both on the start to lead lap 1, with St. Clair close behind in second. St. Clair slipped under Spilker on lap 5 for the top spot, with Spilker coming back on the top to get the lead back on lap 7. St. Clair worked under Spilker on lap 8 for the lead and then held him off on the final two laps to claim the win. Bill O'Haver was third, Keith Reed coming home in fourth, with Buss slipping to fifth. Heat race winners were Dave Hudson and Keith Reed.

The final feature of the night was the USRA Hobby Stocks. Justin Hamelton and Mike Shelton led the field of 23 to the green flag, with Hamelton jumping out front on lap 1. Shelton would work past Hamelton on the top side on lap 3 and then held it for one lap. As he and Mark Holt got together, spinning Shelton and sending both to the back. Hamelton inherited the lead on the restart, with Chris Wibbell close behind in second. Wibbell would jump to the outside of Hamelton on lap 5 to take over the top spot and then held it for the final 10 laps to claim his first win at Memphis. Abe Huls came from 12th to finish in second, Hamelton held on to finish in third, Brandon Symmonds was fourth, with Tony Becerra rounding out the top 5. Matt Snyder, Wibbell and Holt claimed heat race wins.

Coming up next week will be Cook's Men Store Night at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway, featuring the USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series with USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Modifieds and USRA Hobby Stocks, along with Cruisers and Hornets in action.

Gates will open at 4:30 p.m., hot laps are at 6 and racing begins at 6:30.
